Pity me, pity my donkishness. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

By the way, where's the **official party wednesday** thread? I was looking forward to that tonight. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

You put in too small a raise from the button with 6 limpers. The pot is at 225, you raised it only by 60, giving the UTG at least 5-1 to call, assuming the blinds fold, which is good enough for anything worth limping with. This will give the limpers ahead the right odds to call with almost anything.

You should have raised it up to about 200-300 if you really wanted to play, but with that many people behind you, there's a good chance you are small dog to at least one hand, maybe more, and possibly dominated by an AQ from early position. Best case scenario is you have the highest Ax and everyone else is playing Ax<J, and Jx and worse hoping for monster flop on a cheap hand, but that's unlikely. Raise it big and hope to thin the field, or call it and hope for a complete/check, and at least 2 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif on the flop. Anything else be really careful.

I'm a much bigger fan of limping behind in that spot but if you are going to raise you need to make a REAL raise pop it up to 150 or more raising to 90 accomplishes nothing.

agreed w/others.

I limp here and just try to flop something big.

also, I've never seen a super weekday w/ only 280 entrants.

Sitting on A-Js on the button with all the limpers, I may have been inclined to bet about $200-$250, about what's in the pot already. My preference would be to have everyone fold, or have one caller max and play the player post-flop. The worry would be that anyone calling you may have you dominated, pocket pairs are a possibility, as is a higher Ace. KK-QQ is also a concern, but I find most player on-line will put go all-in on hands like that. If re-raised, I'd muck.

I could be totally out to lunch here....
Thoughts?

Early in a tourney, I've started playing AJ (and in some cases AQ) much more passively than in the past. I like limping here just because virtually any bet you make is going to be called by one or two players. Next thing you know, you've created a massive pot, with a hand that is okay, but not sterling.

Limp here, and see what happens on the flop. By the time the betting gets to you, you should have a pretty good idea where you are.

Good luck,

Sam

True, it is party poker, where J-T is an all-in hand for many players /images/graemlins/grin.gif

A7. MP3 was probably the JT, UTG+2 was A7.

I think you should raise to 150-200 preflop. This should thin the field considerably. With that many players in on the flop someone had to hit something. With no reads here I would have to throw this hand away.

Raising with 6 limpers infront of you with AJs on the button is pretty donkish IMO.

I probably fold to this bet on the flop though.
