This type of turn always gets me in trouble because i get caught up in the moment...but is there some other way i should have played?

Preflop: I would fold.

Flop: Looks good.

Turn: Your bet seems awfully big. I prefer a bet of around 200 to 250.

River: Is this a block bet? Even if it is, I still think you have to bet bigger. Checking might induce a bluff that you will be unwilling to call.

I think your turn bet makes the pot nearly impossible to control. By the time the river comes around the pot is now monstrous and you have fairly weak hand.
