View Full Version : Why did I disregard the "No Set, No Bet" Maxim?

Because the flop bet reeked of a continuation bet and I honestly thought I had the best hand. Does anyone else here ever disregard the "No Set, No Bet" rule when they are pretty confident that have the best hand or is it simply not worth it to try?

If I'm going to c/r this flop I am raising to at least 500... pot is 325, his 100, your 100, and thus you are giving him 525:225, or better than 2:1. The 3x raise rule only works preflop, on the flop you must consider the size of the pot; I would raise to 500 here.

That said, I often will just call the 100 and bet any non-A/K turn.

How can you be so sure he doesn't have the queen?
Anyway, I think it's fair enough to give it a go. Maybe a bigger raise to make him really dislike his AK?

Any rules which determine your post flop play before you see the flop are clearly pretty stupid. /images/graemlins/grin.gif BTW, dangerous raise given the flop is completely drawless. As long as you know that its ok. If you want to get froggy I prefer calling the flop and leading the turn.

ohhhhh god I did this the other day with 3s and the flop was 642...After he called me with 9s I slapped myself in the head saying, "are you a fcuking idiot!!! No Set No Bet!!!" Damn I hate decisions...

fold preflop

I think it really depends on the spot. If you have a read, it's fine. Without reads, I don't think it is.

I think you have to fold that pre-flop. If not I think that is the flop you were looking for. This situation does not really fit the no-set, no-bet.

I'll always see a cheap flop in early rounds with a pp. I follow the "no set no bet" rule particularly with very low pp. Ideally I want to be in very late position so if everyone checks I can see the turn for free (duh)

125 isn't cheap.

the only way that you can call this pf bet is if you're positive that he only has AA, KK or you intend on playing without a set given the right flop.

I dont think you can even call this if he has KK. Certain flops (like with an ace) will scare him off... too much of a price to see a flop IMO.
