This news is a little old, and you may have already read it on /.

Google has released a SMS based search service. You can send a SMS text message to 46645 (GOOGL) from any cell phone with your search request and it will send back the results. Only cost to you if from your cellular carrier.

A few example searches
Walgreens seattle wa - returns addresses and phone numbers for walgreen's stores in seattle
Starwars 98125 - returns movie listing for star wars in zip code 98125
define poker - retuns a definition
to 1130 N State St Chicago il from 251 e huron 60611 - driving directions
weather dallas tx - pretty obvious

Lots of other stuff too.

Check it out at sms.google.com (http://sms.google.com). They even have a wallet sized tip sheet you can print out.

I don't think I've ever called 411 from a cellphone anyway.

No need to if you have GPS or whatnot. You can get the numbers there. I'd still call 411 if the google service costs money.
