Am I tossing AA here?

Texas Hold'em $3-$6 (real money), #968,208,817
Table Norwich, 7 Jun 2005 10:20 AM ET
Hero = moi
Donk = he'll call you down with an overpair or bottom pair; usually passive
AJ = Average Joe player; a little loose pre-flop and just a little too passive post

ANTES/BLINDS
AJ posts blind ($1.50), Donk posts blind ($3).

PRE-FLOP
Hero bets $6, MP folds, Button fold, AJ calls $4.50, Donk calls $3.

FLOP [board cards 6S,9D,8S ]
AJ bets $3, Donk $3, Hero bets $6, AJ bets $6, Donk calls $6, Hero calls $3.

TURN [board cards 6S,9D,8S,8H ]
AJ bets $6, Donk bets $12, Hero ?

Given the preflop action, one of them either picked up trip 8s or the donk flopped a straight with 710s or something.

ugh this is ugly. I don't know if i'm good enough to toss AA here, but I think you are behind. First off, AJ who is passive is raising you...surely he's not overplaying a pair of 9's here...he's likely holding 98 whereby you are drawing to 2 outs...or his 96 just got counterfeited....either way, donk raising here is baaaaaaad. Like you said, he has some lame ass straight or three 8's, either of which has you crushed and drawing to 2 outs. If you find a fold here, bravo, because I think you are behind...not sure i'm that good though.

Turn should be a routine fold against passives.
