Run to their keeper, slide tackle, run away from ref, argue with friend for holding up the game, get into a fight, have friend rip out the game without switching the console off first, get into another fight, have parents call parents.

Also, NBA JAM was great for that. Playing on teammate mode. Whoever was closes to your end had to pass the ball to the other player to start it off again, since both of us always wanted the ball none of us would defend. Then came the great 'he's heating up' 'HE'S ON FIRE' and 'THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN'

Yes, that game was good times. A friend of mine and I used to play that all the time. There was some minor secret code to unlock Olaf (the fat one) from the Lost Vikings. Riding around and blowing [censored] up while hearing an announcer excitedly yell "Olaf unleashes hot fury!" was definitely a formative experience.

You don't even have the best part of that game (Jungle Strike is the one I'm refering to, I think). The beginning level started off with you taking off from the whitehouse for some reason. Anyways, at Thanksgiving probably ten years ago or more, we were playing that game on my cousin's NES when my uncle decided that it would be more fun to forget about the objectives and just blow up all the landmarks around the greater DC area. Anyways, my younger brother, probably no more than 4 or 5 at the time, thought that was so funny, and he rolled off the bed and banged his mouth on a metal chair leg. End result was a chipped tooth, a lot of crying, and no turkey. However, the Washington Monument was a pile of rubble.

Probably the first computer game that had people playing it for a living, making money from it. A pretty small bunch, but still, there was a few that were able to do it.
There's still activity in the QW scene and the way people play it today is incredible if you understand the game. I can watch replays of matchups and be in a constant "wtf"face of impression.
I guess these guys playing this game for probably 5+ hours a day for close to 10 years gives them some skill.

I certainly loved mario bros 3 on the snes, but donkey kong country 2 definitely ranks as the best game on the snes ever! (1 and 3 are also good)

Civilization kept me playing for days and days. I used to pretend i was sick so i didnt have to go to school and could continue playing it. (I liked Civ II better then Civ III by the way!) Since the coming of Rome: Total War, civilization (III) just wont cut it anymore though.

Goldeneye on Nintendo 64 is still one of the best games ever, only to be kept from the position of best N64 game by the G.O.A.T: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Words cannot describe the feeling i got when i first walked into Hyrule Field. Everything looked so real and so big! And how about when you've beaten three dungeons and collected the 3 spiritual stones, only to find that its just the beginning!

Also, lets not forget Mario 64! That game swept me of my feet almost as much as Zelda: OOT did!

These days (im not that old, i still play video games a lot:p), one of my favs is Metroid Prime on Gamecube. That game is just awesome! Also, i totally digged the cell-shaded Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker.

And how about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? That game kept me playing for hours and hours. It was only when the sun was shining in my eyes trough a slight opening in my curtains that i realized i had played all night without drinking, eating or even taking a bathroom brake, SCARY!

-Halo (1 for single player, but Halo 2 on Xbox live is totally dope!)

-Virtua Fighter (1,2,3 or 4)

-Medieval: Total War (Im a regular at Total War addicts anonymous)
-Mario World 2 was pretty decent
-Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution series totally buries Fifa!

Super Mario World was the most fun playing alone.

Street Fighter 2 in the arcade.

I'm surprised there aren't more Starcraft fans here. I used to leave my other friends just to get 2 v 2's with an online buddy. He'd page me and I'd bounce on my friends. I'm about to start a Starcraft thread right now.
