View Full Version : Organizing for Change (Long)

I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this post, but it seemed the most likely. I have been living in Colorado for the last 10 years, and I love the life here. The only thing that I want to change (other than letting more people move here) is the gaming limits in the state. Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled when they allowed limited gaming in two cities in the state, but the more I look at it the more I hate it. Colorado placed a $5 limit on all bets in casinos in the state, i.e. non dog/horse racing. I believe the hogwash presented at the time is that the limits would prevent patrons from big losses associated with unlimited gaming. Also, the casinos are somehow regulated along with the restaurants and bars in that they have to close at 2am (more like 1:30 in order to get all patrons out of the door on time). The casinos are basically now slot machine parlors as the people of the state have realized that you can't beat blackjack when you can't increase your bets every so often. There are a few poker rooms, but they get fewer and smaller every year (down to four in one of the towns, out of 20 casinos).

Here's my question (finally): What group would most likely organize to change the limits on gaming? I think the casinos are doing well in general, since they have all the edge and continue to rake in their margins on the slots. I know most poker players would LOVE to see the limits raised to $25 or $50, which would allow them to spread almost any game up to 20-40, as well as make other casino games such as craps viable for the casino. Yet no one seems inclined to do so that I can find.

Is there no hope for this, and I should just suck it up and head to Vegas, AC or California when the bankroll allows? Or does someone have an idea of how to approach this?

Thanks for reading this rant.
