75% of people here raise, the other 25% limp and play for set value.

Excuse the short reply, but this one always turns nasty.

I am of the limp variety. (Cards only people)

I like limp...here is the reason:

It's the first hand you have no reads;it's the first hand they don't have reads;it's the first hand and a raise right off the bat from UTG will weird people out you may not get action

plus i kinda like trying to bust someone with this hand when it's early and the only way to do it is on the flop. You can't bust anyone preflop without flipping.

I did go ahead and limp here even though Jacks is my fav. hand to play. When the cards were dealt I remembered a post from a long time ago on here where someone said limping was best so I kept control of my urge to raise here. I just wanted some other peoples views on this type of hand.

hahahah I think I read somewhere that you're a 25%er

I like the limp. No reads on anyone and sometimes people like to lay down the law on the first hand. Playing it for a set can lead to a large pot and possibly busting someone, whereas playing it fast can lead to an early race that you may or may not win.

Also, if the board flops overcards and there's multiple callers JJ becomes notoriously difficult to play.

If you use the search function, I'm sure that you can find many threads on this subject. The peace talks in the Middle East are only slightly less controversial, but you'll find more commentary on limping vs. raising with JJ UTG.

Just remembered, there was one a couple weeks ago on this topic that was particularly nasty and entertaining. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wish it was 75/25. For a good thread about this, click me (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2452235&page=&view=&sb=5& o=&fpart=all&vc=1).

I raise here if I feel like the table is full of good players.

I limp here if I feel like I can find better spots to get my money in vs weaker players.

With no reads I limp here -- just too early in the tournament to risk my stack w/ a pair of Jacks and no reads.

keep it reaL

raise to 50. limping is silly, you're asking for a worse hand to beat you. yea yea, set value. well set value only works 1/8 of the time, the other time, overs flop and you don't know where the hell you are at in the hand. take control of the hand from the beginning and stay agressive.

you're missing one key ingredient to this post, what level sng? ABC poker works best at lower buyins.

on another note, hi mike

Hey Lori, you notice how the advice in this thread changes with all the good people off to Vegas except us? /images/graemlins/smile.gif
