View Full Version : Sad to See Injuries Determine the Eastern Conference Finals

All the analysts are being politically correct and talking about how the Pistons played with poise down the stretch. However, in all honesty the Pistons won because most of the starting lineup for the Heat, including Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O'Neal, was not at or close to 100 percent for most or all of the series. If Shaq and Wade had been healthy the series most likely would not have even made it to a Game 6. Although the Pistons played well in Game 7, the real story of the series was the injuries that Miami sustained. I don't believe the NBA awards MVPs for the conference finals like MLB, but if it did the injury bug that bit the Heat would definitely take the cake. The Pistons win is somewhat tainted by the fact that their accomplishment largely depended on external factors over which they had no control.

Well, sure. But, there is something to be said about being in better shape so that you can better avoid injuries.

I know Wade's injury was a fluke ... that's part of the game.

Shaq, on the other hand, has not been in good shape (aside from the shape of a Bartlett Pear) for a number of years. He's always an injury risk, especially those that are fatigue related.

Injuries are part of the game. I guess it could be fair to say the Heat lost because of them, but then again, it seems unfair to say the Piston won because of them.

Real well thought out response. I would love for someone to refute this statement. The Detroit Pistons would not have beaten the Miami Heat had it not would been for the injuries sustained by Miami. Or even this statement. The Detroit Pistons would not be in the Finals had it not been for the injury sustained by Dwayne Wade.

Can you refute this? The Pistons would have won even if both teams were 100% healthy.

You play with what you have, and if you lose, you don't make excuses. We'll never know what would have happened had D-Wade been 100%.
