Sparked by a conversation with my roommate. Normally I hate polls, but feel it might be easier to be open on this topic anonymously... /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I cried during this song at my mom's funeral

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories

I don't recall crying because of music, which is surprising because I cry a lot (I'm pretty emotional).

I never cried because I'm manly.

I did want to after listening to some Woody Guthrie though (because it was sad, not cuz it sucked)

Honestly, I believe if you've never cried listening to music, you either haven't listened to the right music, or might have some emotional problem.

Don't play Sanvean (I am Your Shadow) by Lisa Gerrard or Kite Song (or Useless Desire or Top Of The World) by Patty Griffin or Blue (or Ventura) by Lucinda Williams if you want to avoid crying.

Cuz you will be one blubbering mass of man-tears by the time they get through with you.

Unless, of course, you have no soul, in which case it shouldn't be a problem.

Hey, you know, it might be nice to show a little respect to those of us whose mothers have passed away. We don't find it very funny.

When something tragic happens to your life and you turn on the radio... It's almost a guarantee that the song that is playing can be related to the event that happened to you. It's amazing...

You know what else will do it? When you make a brilliant and well-timed joke, and then some guy uses the exact same joke within 30 minutes of your having made it.

Then, you might cry, too. But only for the abject nature of man.

Yes. "How Can I Keep From Singing?" at my grandmother's funeral.

Some of the recorded songs I can think of in the past year or so include -

"Peace in the Valley" by J. Cash
"Come on Up to the House" by Tom Waits
"Keep Me in Your Heart For a While" by Warren Zevon
"Brokedown Palace" by the Greatful Dead
"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd
"The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" and "The Body of an American" by The Pogues
"Jungle Love" by Morris Day and the Time

(Ok, that last one, not true.)

yes, both, often. in fact music is almost the only thing that has ever made me cry. maybe it's genetic, one of my grand-grandfathers was a (somewhat well-known within classical musical circles) composer.

i was in cancun with my GF at the time, at the Hard Rock Cafe. Puffy "missing you" came on and all i could think of was the dead dad i never met and my best friend that died the previous year. i cried like a baby. then i ate a cheeseburger.

The jackass DJ at my brother's wedding played "Seasons in the Sun." It was played at my Dad's funeral about 8 months earlier.

Other than that, no.

Both great songs, but "A Pair of Brown Eyes" is the one that gets me the worst. "Fairy Tale of New York" has a certain maudlin quality that might get the ole lump in the throat going, too.

Did you cry because of that idiotic dance he was doing in his white pajamas? Or because his fat drug dealer buddy died? Or maybe it was the fact that no matter how hard you try, Lil Kim just ain't sexy to you.

Whenever I hear it, I cry because I'm not close enough to strangle the sonofabitch.
