hanging stuff on the wall can really save a lot of space. I am working on freeing up more space in my apartment, and am going to get a pot rack (http://www.potracks.com), a magnetic knife rack (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=amazon+magnetic+knife+rack&hl=en&lr=&sa= N&tab=ff&oi=froogler) and already hang my guitars on the wall with string swings (http://www.stringswing.com/).

anyone else have any interesting space saving devices to recommend?

I can't imagine knives taking up too much space. They sit in a drawer. And hanging super sharp objects above me doesn't seem like a good idea.

But, those little racks that stack ontop of eachother seem nice. What's your housing setup like, you in an apartment? House? You have a spare room? Closets?

Those space bags are supposed to be pretty good for storing clothes in a small space. I got some for my sister as a Christmas present.

well, my knives are in a block on the counter. but counter space is important, and we always used magnetic knife racks in the restaurants I worked in. plus, it'll be above the stove.

I live in basically a single room + galley kitchen apt with my wife, although we have a large closet that we gutted and put all new storage stuff in, and it's great. the rest of the apartment needs some work though.

when we lived in a small condo, my wife and I often lamented our lack of space. So, we moved to a house with a garage. we were cool until we realized that we were acquiring more and more stuff, and now, we have too little space. I've come to realize that

is the best space saving device around.

I know what you mean. I live in an apartment with 2 cats and significant other who comes over ALL the time.

The pot rack is great. I have a wine rack on the wall that saves some space. I use those under-bed drawers too.

But really, I just need to get rid of stuff like M2D said.

There's these kinda weird things I got that save a ton of space in the closet. They have a hook on each end, and between then, a thin but strong plastic bar. The bar has five holes, to stick the hooks of hangers on.

You take the two hooks and hang the device in your closet, put five hangers w/clothes in the little holes in the bar, then release one hook, letting it and the five hangers worth of clothes drop into a vertical alignment. Now your five pants or whatever take about the same closet space as a single pair of pants, since those five pants are stacked vertically.

Those thingies are a great way to organize clothes, too -- like, I can put my jeans together on a hanger, or my striped shirts on another. It's a very nice organizer/space saver.
