From searching/reading past posts I've come to the realization that a real solid player could have an expected BB/100 rate of roughly 2.5. So playing live $10/$20 we're looking at $50/100 hands, or roughly $15-$20 per hour. Take away the session fee of $10/hour and we're looking at a maximum profit of $10/hour. Yet I know of many pros at my local casino that make a comfortable living playing at this level, it doesn't make sense to me. Even without taking the rake away, $20/hour is not that appealing to me.

Do I need to move up to $20/$40 to make real cash? Or is the key to just forget about B&M and multitable online? Or are these players closer to a rate of 3-4BB/100 due to some horrid live players?

My experience is that live players are generally somewhat worse than online players.

The BB/100 is a number after taking into account rake. In other words it is profit per 100.
