Almost all kinds of cheese (although I enjoy pizza).
One of my earliest memories is digging around in my toybox, looking for someting. What I found was an old, moldy hunk of cheddar cheese. Being 2 or 3 years old, of course, my first instinct was to eat it.
I haven't liked cheese since. Which is sad, because most likely I was the one who, presumably while running around the house, gnawing on and enjoying the cheese, dropped it into the toybox in the first place.
I also don't like Chinese food. But there's no back story there.

when i was a kid (like, 6), my parents made me eat it, even after i TOLD them that i was gonna puke if they did. they made me eat it, i puked.... he-loooooo mental block. i can't even look at creamed corn anymore.

Calamari -- any kind of octopus or squid. It amazes me anyone could like this stuff at all, much less consider it a gourmet dish. It's EXACTLY what you think it would be like before you taste it -- fishy and rubbery at the same time. Ugh, what a disgusting combo.
Another one is oatmeal. I can eat it, but to me it's the kind of food you eat because the prison doesn't give you any better. You don't eat it voluntarily or like it -- it's food for the punished. Heck, it IS the punishment.
Oh, also creamed vegetables. Ugh. And braised carrots.

fish, tomatos, onions, olives, mushrooms, peppers, beans, mayonaise, mustard, creamed corn, any salad dressing (i like salads though), peppers, cooked carrots (i like them raw though), anything too chocolaty.
ok so i mostly just listed stuff already mentioned, but it all applies. and likely a lot more, i just can't think of stuff right now.
i'm a very picky eater :/
for example, i hate ketchup on a hamburger, but i love it when i put ketchup on plate and dip the burger into ketchup. having it directly on the burger is disgusting.

[/ QUOTE ]
Tomatoes fresh off the plant have almost no relation to the tomatoes most of us eat, which tend to be soft, fairly flavorless mush. That's one reason I'm surprised people have such a strong reaction to them in this thread. They really don't taste like much!
Fresh-picked tomatoes, though, as in, you picked them yourself or they were picked that day, often have an extremely strong flavor. Even people who love tomatoes, like me, can find the of some of them almost overpowering. They can taste incredibly good, but some aspects of their flavor can get so strong sometimes that they pick up almost the edge that garlic has -- they get hard to eat straight up. It depends on the tomato type and growing conditions, etc., though.
Tomatoes are one of those vegetables whose flavor fresh can seem to have almost no relation to its flavor store-bought.

I can't think of a single food that I don't like, especially foods that most people DO like.
If I find a food I don't like (and this is becoming less and less common) I just decide I like it and keep eating it until I really do. I figure there's got to be something good about it or no one would eat it so I just eat the food until I figure out why other people like it. I've found a ton of things that I love now that I used to hate.

I grew up in the Pacific, so the octopus and squid I've had has been raw, or prepared in different ways. Every time, the fishiness and rubberiness came through. I never had Calamari until I came to the "Mainland" U.S., and I had squid in salads, in soup, in Chinese food, and as Calamari here -- I REALLY tried to like what everyone was raving about. But I just couldn't manage it.
Maybe it's possible to have it prepared right so it isn't fishy and/or rubbery, but it would be a first time I'd ever had it that way. It seems to me you either have to be a genius to make it "right" somehow, or -- that's simply what it tastes like.

I'm crazy about Coke. I've drank more of it than anyone I've ever met.
Trying to get myself off it, though, or at least taper down quite a bit. All the sugar isn't good for me at all, and the caffeine adds up too.
I basically like anything carbonated, though. Carbonated water is probably my favorite thing to drink. Coke is just a basic enough, simple flavor that I don't get tired of it as fast as I do other sodas.
I don't like new Coke, Vanilla Coke, am not too fond of Cherry Coke, or Diet Coke. And I think Coke may have gotten sweeter over the years. Their "New Coke" was originally an attempt to steal market share from Pepsi, which had a far larger international presence compared to its market share in the U.S., because it is sweeter. Well, they eventually came back with the restored regular old Coke, but my suspicion is that they're still after that market share for sweeter soft drinks, and have slowly upped the sugar to be more comparable to Pepsi.

Lettuce, cabbage, carrots, onions, basically anything that goes into a side salad (except croutons, croutons rule). This is kind of funny, because I'm a vegan. Whenever I go out to a restaurant with a group, everyone ends up scouring the menu looking for something I can eat. Then someone says "well, you can have a salad!" Then I inform them that I'm a vegan who doesn't like vegetables. Mild comedy ensues.

Sometimes they're just a little too dry and crunchy to me, like biting into a rock. Not pleasant. But mostly, they're usually so highly spiced, super salty, and artificially flavored -- to me, just exactly like I was sprinkling a bag cheetos or the most artificially-flavored tasting Doritos you could find over my nice fresh, healthy salad. It just destroys the taste of freshness and cleanness of a salad, to me.
If the croutons are fresh and not so highly spiced, I can get along with them better. But I hardly ever see croutons done that way -- they're usually nasty.
I like plain potato chips, too. I don't like breads or chips or croutons that make me feel like I'm sitting in a laboratory in Dow Chemical Corp. drinking chemicals out of a vat. I don't need organic, but jeez -- I don't need stuff that tastes like it was refined from coal tar residues, either.
I love bread, though. Even have my own bread-making machine. I don't use it though, because I love fresh bread so much that when it's hot from the oven, I can eat a whole damn loaf all by itself or with a little butter or apple butter. I like it TOO much.

My mom used to bake bread. I still have great strong memories about it. Man, the smell is unbelievable.
She was great at it, and sometimes would get frustrated because (we had a big family) she could bake bread all day, and there would be no bread bread left when she was done! It was just so great when it came hot out of the oven all us kids would go nuts and devour it. We'd be hanging around the oven just waiting for it to come out. A good hearty bred hot from the oven is like candy.
It was kind of funny; the biggest compliment we could pay her baking was that after she was done, it was like she never started. All she had to show for it, besides our appreciation, was already in our stomachs. It must have been a compliment that was almost frustrating. She had to make a real effort to be sure some was still around in case Pops wanted some.
If you haven't tried some of those automatic breadmakers, try them. I've had two different kinds; both work just great. And you can put them on timers, which is very cool, so you have fresh hot bread when you wake up in the morning or whatever. That's quite a treat, and the level of work involved is almost none. Just pour the stuff in and walk away. They do good pizza dough, too. The first pizza I ever made was easily one of the best pizzas I ever had.
