The Phillies are now 29-27 and 1.5 games out of first place.

They have a strong rotation with Myers (who has been one of the NL's best this year), Wolf (who is finally healthy and pitching well), Lieber, Padilla (um.... who knows with this guy) and Lidle (a solid 5th).

Their bullpen sucks. But they are finally hitting. So...

It's a wide open division.

FWIW, BPro gives the Mets the best chance to make the postseason (40%), then the Marlins (30%), Phillies (28%), Braves (25%), and Nationals (19%). Why are the Braves so low? They've been scoring runs despite hitting badly (that is, "timely" hitting that doesn't last) and not allowing many runs despite putting a lot of runners on (specifically, Mike Hampton).

Hampton is on the DL, and so is Thomson. Our 5th starter is Seth Greisinger. [censored].

Yes, I agree the Marlins are the ones you really gotta look out for, but I mean they're pitching way over their heads. It'll sure be an exciting race.

Stop the baseball posts. Baseball sucks. You'd need to get drunk or high to enjoy those games.

Anyone who has watched the Phillies at all over the last 100 or so years knows that they'll play well until it looks like they'll actually have a chance, at which point they will collapse.

I tend to amend this with "except for Wagner and Madson." It's a shame the rest of the 'pen is so terrible, since it means they're shopping Polanco for pitching help.

This will leave them no choice but to start David "E5" Bell all year. But they would probably do that anyway. Why start Polanco (.307, .779 OPS) and Utley (.309, .947 OPS) when you've got Bell (.263, .665 OPS)?

You know, in my original post I was going to write "Their bullpen sucks except Madson, Wagner and Tejeda." But I decided against it.

By the way, I'm the biggest Bell hater ever. He's a 3B hitting .250 with zero power. Sounds like a winner to me.

based solely on their recent performances against the giants, i'd say they have a good chance. finally it will be worth going to a game! havent been to he new park yet.

yea, Bell's not goin anywhere

especially cuz of Charlie Manuel's dedication to David's dad, former asst. coach at Cleveland and now manager at Kansas City
its too bad, but as long as Utley is playing everyday at 2nd, I can be satisifed
