My brother lives in a rural area and has dial up. He has frequent disconnects and the obvious slow speed. The only real high speed access he can get would be through a satellite dish. It costs $600 for the hardware and $60 a month so he's just wanting to know if it's worth it. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

I live in Ont. Canada. Direcway was called Lincsat then renamed itself to Xplornet.

I've had it the last year. It works really good, but I"d wait until July 1st.

Follow this link there will be 2 cheaper alternatives
on KU and KA band. (I pay $99/month cnd. now)

I will be looking at switching over to the KA ($59/month).

Look into having a T1 or fractional T1 line routed to your house. Satellite internet has very high latency.

He lives 10 miles from the closest town and that town has 200 people so I don't think T1 is an option.

Better than dial-up for downloading large files, but not good for playing games (high lag). Disconnections were a huge problem and customer service was pitiful. Very pricey as well.
