Which brand name has become the most interchangeable with its actual product in today's society?

Blackjack

You should have added Coke. I never ask for a pepsi. It's always "I'll have a coke" followed by them saying "Is pepsi alright?"

Why would anyone mind consuming aspartame?

Everything but Xerox.

You should have put the term "Rollerblades" in there too.

You have to be really careful that you don't use these terms in writing, while conducting business, because Kleenex, etc. can sue you for trademark infringement.

Basically, as soon as a brand name becomes a noun rather than a proper noun, anyone that wants can make kleenexes and sell them as kleenexes, as opposed to Kleenexes. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Companies try really hard to protect that exclusive brand name.

Escalator. Except, the company that came up with them didnt trademark it, so it's legal for everyone to call them escalators now. They were orignally a bradn name tho.

Of those on the list, Q-Tip is the only one I wouldnt know how to describe with 1-2 words without using QTip.

ie.

Band-aid = bandage
Kleenex = Tissue

Therefore, I vote QTip.

Gimme a liter of cola.

[/ QUOTE ]

If I want some form of Cola, then I usually ask for Coke because that is what most restaurants serve. But, for example, if I feel like a soda of any kind, I would say "I am going to the soda machine." It is my understanding that in the South, especially near Atlanta, people use the word Coke to refer to a soda of any flavor.

Coke is not as pervasive a term as Bandaid because many people outside of the South use the word soda or pop as the generic word. Coke is often used as the generic word for any kind of Cola, but that is not the same as using it as the generic word for any kind of soda.

Me too, I thought most people did, but Blackjack said the same thing and someone said he must be from the South. He wasn't referring to all sodas as "coke."
