Which one has better mid-limit (15-30ish) hold'em games? Do either of these casinos offer poker room rates?

Any recommendations on which one to go to for weekend play if coming from Boston?

Thanks.

mohegan as a casino is much better. For poker Foxwoods is the place to go. Hotel is expensive i would suggest staying in Mystic and driving or there is a place called Abbys lantern inn its right behind two trees(foxwoods #3hotel) ask for caddilac suite you will love it. BTW foxwoods daily poker tourneys are great Tuesday night is a crazy one unlimited rebuys for first 3 rounds first place usually walks away with over $1000. Sat morniing limit holdem has 1 rebuy got $800 for 3rd place this summer.

Foxwoods has the better and larger poker room. If you're going to be driving from and returning to Boston in the same day, Foxwoods is about 9 miles closer, too. About 100 miles whether you go down I-95 through Providence or out the Pike to I-395.

I just moved to Cali from Connecticut, so I played almost every single day at MS or Fox. I usually went to Mohegan for the following reasons:

1. Mohegan waitresses bring you the big beers. At foxwoods you get the little ones in the styrofoam cups.

2. Mohegan's parking is better/more accessable.

3. Mohegan doesn't look like an alien spaceship just landed and is having their revenge on humanity by making us relive 1989.

The rakes are both pretty hefty, in my opinion. Also, the Sun's cardroom has this unusual odor associated with it. It's kinda like a cross between B.O. and your vacuum cleaner after you've run it for a while. Can anyone else say what that smell is? It's funky. They even replaced the carpet, but I don't think it worked.

Granted, Foxwoods has more games, but if I want to play spread limit omaha/chicago high low jacks or better or something, I think I have bigger problems than choosing a casino. Plus, there seem to be more recreational players at Mohegan since Foxwoods is considered the poker hotspot in the area. Whatever! Good luck.

Those are the three worst reasons to pick a proker room I have ever heard. Go to the Woods, much more action....parking does suck, but just go to the valet and give him the password.

As of this writing (new years eve 2002) the Mohegan Sun has not been able to reclaim its regular $20/$40 Hold'em game which used to be its "staple game". If you wish to play Hold'em above the $5/$10 limit you are forced to go to foxwoods to find a game. But good news they always seem to have a 20/40 HE game these days.

Thanks everyone!

One more question -- what hold'em limits does Mohegan Sun regularly spread on the weekends? I won't be going alone, so I'm wondering what low-limit games are available as well.

(I'm concerned about the stench at MS, but it sounds like Foxwoods is a zoo...)

The 'stench' at Mohegan isn't as bad as advertised. They spread a 3-6 hold'em game that usually has at least one must move table supporting it. They also have at least one 5-10 table with one or two must move tables.

Since Foxwoods changed their 20-40 structure to a rake and increased the points to $3 per hour, Mohegan has not been able to support the game. I heard that if this situation continues that Peter will match Foxwoods' program to try and get the game back. Both of the last two weekends 10-20 was the biggest straight hold'em game spread at Mohegan (once we played with a 1/2 kil). They also had a 50-100 HOE game going with a waiting list.

Both casinos have excellent hotels. At times you can get a players rate of $99 at either. At Foxwoods the grand cedar hotel is the nicest.

If you are bringing guests, Mohegan Sun might be a better choice. They have more shopping, free concerts and more things to look at. Both properties have excellent restaurants.

Thank you -- just the info that I was looking for...

My "guests" are really bringing me. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif I'm looking forward to seeing how East Coast hold'em is!

What is the password? New England Clam Chowder? Is that the red or the white?

As a low limit player, I'd say Mohegan is a bit better for variety of games. They spread 3-6 and 5-10 he (as opposed to 2-4 and 4-8 at FW), and 1-3, 1-5 and 5-10 stud (same at both) but Mohegan also spreads a 2-4 O/E game that can be a lot of fun. 5-10 is the lowest O/E game at FW. I think both rooms smell kind of funky, but Mohegan is definitely the classier casino overall.

Truthfully, since you'll be in the area, go to both and let us know which one you like best.

"They spread 3-6 and 5-10 he (as opposed to 2-4 and 4-8 at FW)"

WF also spreads 5/10 HE. Giving it a wide variety of hold'em games.

Foxwoods: 2/4, 4/8, 5/10, 10/20, 20/40
Mohegans: 3/6, 5/10

(yes foxwoods supports both 4/8 and 5/10.. I am suprised myself)

The 5/10 is kill @ $100, no kill in the 4/8 so there's a little more difference in the stakes than you'd think.
