Dont know if anyone noticed, but Joe Strummer from the Clash passed away last Sunday. If you were a college student or into music in the late 70's/early 80's, and had half a brain, then there was a good chance you were into them. I do not think it is being overly dramatic when I say he was the voice for a generation. I remember in 1980 when John Lennon died. Me and a bunch of my punk friends thought it was funny how sad and weepy a bunch of old hippies were about his passing and the fact that this was a guy they had never even met. Now I understand...I felt like a small part of me died when I heard the news. It is really sad because The Clash were recently inducted into the RNR Hall of Fame and he and Mick Jones had recently performed on stage in London for the first time in almost 20 years. He also had come out of his musical hibernation and had out out 2 very solid albums with the Mescalleros in the past couple of years. RIP Joe..stay free.
