The table is playing 9 handed, for simplicity's sake.

UTG raises. Hero is on the button

1) How many people need to cold call between UTG and Hero for Hero's coldcall to become +EV?
2) Is there ever a correct circumstance to three-bet with 33 from this position? If so, name one.

At least three (including original raiser). Unless you hit your set (9-1) you will have to drop. I think the EV makes up for iteslf when you do hit due to implied odds.

3 cold-callers, for sure -- I might go with two if the blinds are loose and passive, thinking that it's likely at least one of them will come along.

The only time I would ever 3-bet this is if everyone cold-called to the button; then this would be a raise for +EV and +dopeness.

What calculation are you doing to get 3+?

Can this hand ever be played for a reraise? (like from the BB with an UTG raise and 5+ cold callers, or heads up against a LAG in mid-late position?)

3 coldcallers will make a call +EV I think.

I don't think there is a +EV for raising. To do that 33 is to low.

1 - 3+ CC, wetting myself if I flop my set
2 - If UTG was overly aggressive PF, it was folded to me, and the blinds were pretty tight, I might give it a shot. But even in those circumstances, it's still kinda iffy.

2 cold callers if SB and BB have really high VPIP.

I wouldn't 3 bet here.
