Note on the English - I try to improve it, sorry for mistakes

Note on the humor - I prefer the dry version so I dont put any smileys after my jokes

Hello!

I try to write a weekly report about my experiences playing online poker.

This is the introduction and my plan is to write a new report every Tuesday for one year now up to the end of May 2006.

I got the idea after reading the great posts from davidross but waited to today to start it. Needless to say that David plays in another league and I dont try to copy him.

My personal background and life so far:

(I keep it short so I hope thats not to boring)

I am a 34 years old german and went to school in the northern part of Germany (close to Hamburg). After school I went to University and studied economy but quit that quickly and started at my fathers surveying company. The time for surveyers was very good because of the German Unification. Lots of work in the eastern part of Germany! So I made an apprenticeship and studied surveying. My father sold his business and I started with him in eastern Germany close to Berlin a new office.
After his retirement and a couple of years the crisis in the construction industry and the bankrupty of some big customers forced me to close the company. I tried to work as a freelancer but failed also because of bad payment behavior. So I looked for something new but didnt had a great idea.

Last year I visited with an old friend his uncle in Peru (South America). We spent the last days at the capital in a good hotel with a lot of TV-channels. Zapping around I discovered an interesting Pokertransmission. It was a tournament and a guy with the funny nickname "Moneymaker" won this tournament...
I thought: " How can a guy who look like he work as a gas station attendant make so much money only with a cardgame?"
This moment was the key moment and I was eager to know more about this game that I saw before only at movies like Cincinatti kid. In my 34 years I played a half hour draw poker against my father and my youngest brother so my knowledge was close to zero.
So back in Germany I used my spare time to find out everything about this game that could find at the Internet. To be honest the whole day was spare time because I lived from my earnings and made also debts.

I opened my first account and started my "career" at Pacific Poker with play money. Than I discovered freeroll tournaments and spend lots of hours to play them. I won some bucks and build my bankroll up to 50$ or so. Because I was so greedy I played a 30+3$ SNG (one table tournament) and won this thing! Wow 150$! This is fun!! I cant remember but it must be one of this moments when i decided to be a professional poker player! Needless to say that I lost it a day or 2 later when I decided that I am ready for 3/6$ Ringgame. In one of my first hands I had a horrible bad beat and I was sure nobody in poker history had such bad luck: After a lot of raising and reraising I folded my flopped 2 pairs at the river because the other player got his flush for sure. Poker can be so cruel!

So I restarted a little bit more professional and played microlimits ringgame. After a couple of weeks I changed to Sitngos and played there a lot from 10$ to 30$ FAST tournaments and did quite well. For a change I played Multitable tournaments and got some nice winnings between 300 and 800$ and one time 1,5k. I also started bonuswhoring at casinos and pokerrooms for example the 500$ bonus at Empire and built up my bankroll to 2 or 3k. I cant remember because I was to lazy to write my results down. Why should I? I was a winning player and far better than all these donks!

I was convinced that its possible to earn my income through poker and decided quickly to leave the country and to live in Thailand!

I have to explain this:

I travelled a lot since my 15th birthday. At the age of 17 I was the first time out of Europe and travelled together with my father to the dominican republic. After this holiday I watched my life in Germany different and had the dream like so many people to live in one of thess countries where live seems to be so easy! In the last 15 years i travelled to many countries in Central- and Southamerica and Asia and I never lost this dream. Life was so much better out of my country! It was especially much more easier to find a "girlfriend". When it comes to a dicision I quit my first plan to go to Southamerica and I decided after some reports to go to Thailand because there are so many western people there its not expensive and the security situation is much better than in most parts of Southamerica. I decided to go to Pattaya the Entertainment capital of Asia.

At the 14th of October last year I arrived in Bangkok with nothing but 2 suitcases. I had no family and only a cheep appartment so it was no big deal to start new.

Now i live here 7 and a half month in a small but nice furnished room with a nice view overlooking Pattaya and the ocean.
I found a nice girlfriend out of the "entertainment business" and I feel much more better than in Germany where life was quite frustrating most of the time.

Back to poker:

After Pacific Poker finished the FAST Tournaments and introduced new SNGs with an unattractive price structureI changed again to Ringgame in January this year.

I started to play 5/10 Ringame and did quite well. Dont ask me how well because I had no pokertracker and wrote down the results only occasionally. Than I moved to 10/20 and did very well. than to 15/30 and did unusual well. I decided to play at 30/60$ because I was convinced to play better than most of the other players. My rush at 30/60 was unbelievable! For a week I made every day more than 1k! Ok sometimes I was down during the day but at the evening I managed it to finish the day with a high winning. So after this week my bankroll was close to 10k! I started this whole thing with 3k or so (50 big bets). Two friends warned me that my bankroll was far to low for this limit. In the 2+2 I read a lot of threads over bankroll management. Every thread said that its - yeah you all know it- 300 PTBB or more and than you should have some money to start new. But not me! I felt like the best poker player on earth! WSOP I am coming!

After the next week I was down to 3k and started to think. If I spent my remaining 3k so quick i have to go back to Germany and have to sell washingmachines or stuff like that. So I played NL. I lost 1.5k. I started SNGs at Eurobet and lost 400$.

Needless to say that this time was not very appointing.

10 days ago I started with my remaining bankroll 100$ NL and made 1 buyin per day. I write everything down in a Excelsheet and bought pokertracker after over 1 year of poker.

I try to overcome my horrible weak discipline and try to play my A-game.

The ROR is not zero but this time I try to focus on my A-game and proper bankroll management. I know I should play at a lower limit but I play very tight now and only one table and think thats ok.

So I will play now every day for 6 hours one table 100$ NL. The aim is one buyin per day on average. My day off is Tuesday. My plan is to write every Tuesday a weekly report with my thoughts, feelings, interesting hands and so on.

Any hints and comments are highly appreciated and I try to answer all questions.

Even if you think that I am a complete donk feel free to tell me that. after I reraid the whole thread you might be right!

May the pokergod be with you!

Very interesting post and I look forward to your posts in the future.

Just make sure you are playing within your bankroll as always. 20 buyins.

Six hours one tabling is going to be quite a chore so also good luck with that. If you get bored maybe move to nl25 and try 2 tabling then 3 tabling.

Goodluck

Thanks for feedback.

Youre right 1 table is to boring but I dont have the monitor for multitabling now. So at the monent I play also Multitable tournaments, do bonuswhoring and try to qualify for the WSOP and also do some Ringgame.

I will give a detailed report at Tuesday.
