View Full Version : You make this fold ITM with AJ?

blinds 200/400

All stack sizes are average and rounded:

button - 2500
hero (sb) - 3000
BB - 2500

button pushes

hero folds

My friend thought I should have called here with AJos. My read on the button is this is the first time I've seen him open push before so I thought he may have a strong hand.

Thoughts?

I don't see someone making their first open push with a monster, unless he has reason to believe he'll get a caller ITM. That said, I'm probably calling 99% of the time, and hoping to be a luckbox when I get beat and end up with 500. You are probably racing, but its worth the gamble with the dead money from the BB (assuming he folds) and the dominant stack you will have if you win. My range for this call is probably 77+, ATo+, A9s+, maybe KQ, but I'm not really sure about this range yet. Anyone else's calling range here? Maybe 99+ instead of 77

Also, what level is this? although I'm not sure this would change my stance at all.

Oh, I'm calling here with a big range of hands. The blinds are simply too big to lay down anything solid. Probably 44+, A8+, KQ.

I didn't read your post, but no.

Fake edit: now I did read it, and no

Meh now I feel dumb.

Well I won that one anyways.

But I still feel dumb.

The only way I am folding this is if the other two players fold 90% of their hands to all-in bets.

So I call here probably 99% of the time.

A case can be made for folding so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. You won!

HU is a different matter.

Blinds are 200/400. I might fold if they were 25/50.

I call. Many poor players often don't open push before there are 3 left before they play suboptimally on the bubble, but once they are in the money they open it up a little. So unless you have been 3-handed for awhile then your read on the raiser probably has little value.

Where is the ICM?!?!?!

The only time I fold AJ ITM is if both other players are all-in before me.

Ok, just for completeness, this becomes a fold when you tighten up the pusher to around 22+, A7+, which is a little ridiculous.

Folding is terrible of course, but I believe this has been mentioned once or twice already.
