I'm watching a DVD right now. I want to take an image from the DVD and get it into my photo album so I can later download it into my photbucket account.

What do I do?

Well if you're using Windows Media Player I know the trick is to go into the options and turn off video acceleration IIRC.

I gotta pay for a program? I figured any computer could do it.

You can find free software too. I'm not sure how to do it in Windows, but I know you can find that program for free on multiple file sharing programs.

The problem is that DVD codecs use your GPU, and screen capture is done by the OS. This is why you need to get 3rd party program that works with your GPU to get a screen capture. Like Dead said, there are probably free ones available or at least downloadable.

Press print scr it's right next to the F12 button. Paste in MS paint or photoshop like software.

Does this work for you when watching say a divx encoded DVD rip? Or, even just watching an actual DVD on your computer?

That didn't work. I got a completely black image when I pasted.

Of course it does not work.

Wacki is a scientist, not a computer technician. Just download a program from a file-sharing service. And open the README file.

I have Zoom Player which is free so maybe that is why I can do screen captures. I'm not sure though.

you need to hit the alt and print screen buttons at the same time - then paste into something like a word document or a photo editor if you want to crop the image -

that'll capture the basic screen image to your clipboard.

It is my hopes that by doing/PM'ing this info to you, I will have bought myself gracepoints in the eyes of our new moderating overlords.
