I decided to take a stab at the 55s tonight. I didn't get any time to adjust, since the first hand had me getting into the pot:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t15 (10 handed)

(all stacks t1000)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with Q/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, A/images/graemlins/spade.gif.
UTG calls t15, UTG+1 calls t15, 1 fold, MP1 calls t15, 1 fold, Hero calls t15, 3 folds, BB checks.

Flop: (t85) J/images/graemlins/club.gif, J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, A/images/graemlins/club.gif (5 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 bets t15, MP1 calls t15, Hero raises to t100, BB folds, UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls t85.

Turn: (t300) K/images/graemlins/spade.gif (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets t150, MP1 calls t150.

River: (t600) 6/images/graemlins/club.gif (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks.

I like the line. But i prolly bet a touch more on the turn (more the 200 mark).

Otherwise its all good, and yes, you must check the river.

Woulda been nice, but I ran into the powerhouse hand: 8/images/graemlins/club.gif4/images/graemlins/club.gif. Nice to know these guys are at the 55s as well. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Adanthar must be too busy today to tell you to raise PF.

Nothing like the donks playing 8/images/graemlins/club.gif 4/images/graemlins/club.gif from mp1. Anyway, AQ is a hand that I always muck in level 1, for this very reason. Too many donks.

The best part of this is, the donk doesn't even know how to get his implied odds to call the turn bet out of this. I'm sure a bet of t100-150 would have gotten a call (maybe?) out of hero. So yes, they still are donks at this level.

Oh wait, I forgot that he was boycotting the hand converter. I guess I'll have to say it: raise preflop.

Hey, I edited it, so it should've passed the Adanthar test. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, I agree with you, particularly this late. Something like t75?

Also, anyone have any thoughts about limping AQ early as a "big slick" detector? I've never done this (I fold) but I've seen some strategies that suggest it. The basic idea is that way, you will know if your TP is good (i.e., if big slick is in, they'll raise you, but might not re-raise you if you raised), but it seems like limping there could lead to a similar (unhappy) outcome as this hand.

Yeah I think Raising the button is your best option to maybe (who knows, he called 15 UTG with 84 suited) to get the donk to fold. These are the players you want though, calling out of position with total junk. Obviously he wasn't going to fold even to a large raise on a paired board for his flush draw. Most of the time he will be paying you off.

There was a discussion yesterday involving implied odds and this hand is a perfect example...not only did you not give them...and perfectly I might add (IOW, you were betting just enough to make his calling bad) but, you also didnt pay him off at all for hitting.

Perfectly played hand IMO. Ala Sklansky, you made him made mistakes, and you didnt make any...you won the hand

edit...I didnt notice the lack of PF raise. yeah...id raise this up too...but post flop you played it nicely

I would have raised preflop to around t100.

You have position on most of the table--including the 3 limpers. You're almost certainly ahead of those players, or at the very least will run into players will small-mid pairs playing for set value, that you can usually push off most flops. I wouldn't mind a limp if you were a couple of seats to your right, but here, you need to take advantage of your position.
