I have a peacock on my roof right now. It's very cool. They've been coming through our yard in the evening for about a month now. The last couple of days my wife has been feeding them. It looks like one has decided to stay. Here's one of them:

theres some house/farm on my drive to work, that seems like some ducks of some sort and a peacock hang out around. i always get excited when they're hanging out near the road where i can see, cuz it's just kinda weird these people have these animals hanging around their house all the time and they're nice to see.

but once i was driving down the road , and i had to stop, because the peacock was in the road and i didn't want to hit it. then i was like "wtf , a peacock was just in the road." good story huh? thanks.

wow, that is awesome and I am jealous. Also do you happen to live in a zoo because that is the only place I have encountered free ranging peacocks?

They're pretty cool until they make that god awful screech at 5 am.

We went to Disney a few years ago and my daughter who was 4 at the time got off first at the tram stop. There was a peacock standing right in front of her. She jumped and yelled yikes yikes. Now my family calls them yikes yikes. A gay story but I thought I'd share anyway.

Did it escape from Parrot Jungle?

BTW, if you haven't been to Parrot Jungle (I know it's in your neck of the woods) it's a must see. Way better than any zoo ever. Awesome for kids and adults.

kill them now. they are the most horrible birds to have hanging out at your place. as pokerjo mentioned they're loud and awake very early. sometimes a light coming on in the middle of the night is enough to make them start screaming.
they also produce some of the biggest piles of bird crap you've ever encountered. it'll be all over your yard and property once they've established themselves.

and don't kid yourself for a minute that they won't establish themselves. your wife's feeding them, they have a pretty safe area to live in (the fence will protect them from major predators), and it looks like they have a bunch of area to roam around in. they have the moving vans packed up. soon, you'll have little peacock chicks running around as well, which'll be cute for a week or two. then, a few months down the line, you'll have a bunch of adult birds. that sucks and they cease being cute when the aforementioned screaming and crapping occur.

another endearing quality is their propensity to hide in the smallest bush (it's amazing how they do this, btw) and burst out at you when you least expect it. they can also get aggressive during mating and brooding season.

growing up, our valley had a resident population of peacocks, so I know from experience that, regardless of how cute and cool they seem now, your best course of action is to nip this one in the bud.

amen. The people across the field from us where I grew up had a bunch of them. When I had friends over and they made their sound, no one ever believed me it was a peacock. The always said it was a cat (I never could understand that answer)

Sorry to say, it's a terra cotta bird bath. It would be funny though if the peacock was in love with a pink lawn flamingo.

This is very astute, and yes, we're pretty sure that's where they come from. I live a few blocks from the old parrot jungle. It's no longer the parrot jungle though. They closed the place down a few years ago, and it's now called Pinecrest Gardens, minus the parrots. There are a bunch of peacocks there that roam at will. They don't really lock them in or anything. It's still a very cool place to go. It's free and has all kinds of cool animals and stuff for kids. My wife takes the kids there several times a week.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Parrot Jungle is gone? I was there just a couple years ago...it can't be gone, it was easily the best animal place I've ever been to..or did they move it?

I'm not sure if there's a new one or not. there's a monkey jungle now. Anyway this place did used to be the parrot jungle.

I also grew up right next to people who owned a shitload of peacocks. At least I think they owned them; the peacocks got to go wherever they wanted, so maybe they weren't owned. These people also had/have donkeys, and imo, donkeys are worse, noisewise.

Update: He was still there this morning, eating some Cheerios we left out for him. I hope he stays. He's very friendly. He'll let you get w/in a couple of feet of him before strutting away nonchalantly. I wonder if we could eventually hand feed him.

Post porn pics? No. Not that I can think of. I probably respond to others' posting of them, however.

Pokerjo (whoever she was) was off by an hour. At 4:20 this morning the peacock began screaming (or so my wife told me as I slept through it). It has taken up residence on our roof. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
