I put out a 3BB raise on the button. Was wondering if maybe I should have just called, saw a flop then went nuts.

Nope. The button is the perfect spot to raise with AA because it's the so called steal position and you're more likely to get some action, maybe even a re-steal attempt.

It is not good to slow play unless you have a monster (I don't consider pocket A's to be a monster at a full table). People that slow play high pocket pairs lose more than people that play them aggressively. You need to bet to make people fold that should not be in pot to begin with and who could get lucky by checking their SB/BB 7-2 and flop 2 pair.
