I'm watching Willy Wonka (original 70's movie, no smart ass comments cause it rules. Period.) last night, and I was surprised to see Charlie's Grandfather call someone a nit, and within 10 minutes later Veruka Salt's father call Willy Wonka a nitwit.

Nitwit I've heard before.... but Nit isn't something I've heard much before poker.

Its not a common expression, but it has been around for a long time. Perhaps more of a British thing. . .

and what's with Grandpa Bucket anyway? He's sick and crippled in bed, until he hears that he might get some free candy, and he's singing, dancing, and frolicking around like a jack-ass? Goldbricker if you ask me.

I'm pretty sure Violet blasts Veruca with a "Can it, you nit!"

Violet tells Veruca "Can it you nit!"
and then a few minutes later "Stop squaking you twit!"
and then a few minutes later grandpa says "Because Charlie, she's a 'nitwit'"

Funny huh?
