Wireless Router Troubleshoot

I recently purchased a Netgear WGR614 Wireless router and am attempting to set it up. Everything is good following the installation CD until I connect the router to my PC with the ethernet cable. When the router then tries to re-configure the network, I get an error message saying: "The connection to your router is not availabe." It then tells me to make sure all the cables are plugged in correctly but offers no further help.

I disabled my firewall before starting the installation. Is there anything else I should be doing?
