I have a read on the villain that he is very very LAG.

Should I have bet more on the flop to scare him away?

Very very LAG players are much more likely to bet and raise and tend to shy away when raised and check-raised. I don't think it changes your play here except maybe in future situations try check-raising flops like this. Villian could be raising with anything here, but I think its too expensive to find out.
