I'm looking for suggestions for good nightclubs that me and my girlfriend could both enjoy while in vegas over the next week. A short description of the place would be beneficial and the location would be nice to know as well. I would probably be most interested in places that are easy to get to and easy to get back to my hotel from. I am staying at the gold coast if that helps.

I leave wednesday morning so any help would be greatly appreciated.

club voodoo (i think it is?) in the rio, 52nd floor, very nice bar / club with an outside party on the balcony and an incredible view.

I'm not really big into clubbing but thought it would be something fun for us to do in Vegas. I'll be sure to check out your link - thanks.

I agree with the above poster on the Voodoo lounge. It's a 2 floor (no dance club) ultra lounge. The view is absolutely AMAZING from outside. I'm sure there is dancing outside though as there is usually a bar and music out there as well. I've only been up there once, but prefer staying inside as I have this thing about being up 40 floors in the air with nothing around me. (Yes, it's on 51st floor, but Rio doesn't use 40's much like the rest of vegas). If anyone wants to know the reason for that, just ask. It's pretty simple actually.

For the unenlightened, what's the reason? Very interesting...

Photoc, you dealing on Wednesday?

Yep, i'm in at 11am.

The reasoning....

Ever notice that there is no number 4 or 14 on a Pai Gow Poker, Tiles, or Baccarat game?
Same reason as there are no number 14 or 40 something floors in most casinos.

The number 4 looks almost exactly like the chinese symbol for death and being that Asians are the typically the most supersticious of all gamblers, casinos don't want to take any chance of losing their business.

I for one, after being in this business for 8+ years, am about the least supersticious person I know. I'm a stats and odds type of guy. I find it funny how casinos prey on psychology like masters!

Somethign important with the club is that it needs to be one of those "only in vegas" types of experiences... We don't want some type of club or bar that we could find something similar to up here in Calgary. Flashy with some kind of cool environment that will make it a neat experience is more of what we are after.

VooDoo Lounge.

I really like the place. A bit of an older crowd compared to many clubs. Band inside with some cozy seating, dance music outside with the killer view. Order a Witch Doctor.

Clark,

Thanks for chipping in here as well. It looks like VooDoo will probably be a great place for us.

Poker question for you - where should I go for some decent, fun, mid-limit action? Probably 15-30, 20-40 with the potential to try 30-60 / 40-80 if I don't run bad just to see what the bigger mid-limit games are like (where I am from these games do not exist). Is Belagio the best location? Mirage? or is the Wynn the place to be?

Thoughts / comments on this would be appreciated. I don't plan on playing a lot of poker but would like an enjoyable experience when I do play. Note: I've spent a few hours (around 20-40 total hours at the 15-30 tables) at the Belagio in the past and enjoy it but am looking for alternatives to broaden my Vegas experience.

Mirage has consistently the softest games in town. They have 20-40 and 40-80. You know Bellagio's story. Wynn has had some soft 15-30's, but then the jump is to 40-80.

Thanks again. I think my plan is to play a few hours one day at the Wynn to say that I've done it and see what it's like and then focus my play at the Mirage. I've only ever played there once - a 3-6 game the first time I came to vegas.

Overall, my opinion of the room was that it wasn't as "nice" as the belagio... but the game I was in was the best 3-6 I've ever played in.

I'll be scoping out the 40-80 game and hope to book a couple of wins at the 15 or 20 level so that I can feel slightly comfortable playing 40 for an evening (for me it's all about confidence - I have the roll for playing but I have to feel confident before I'll want to sit down). If I'm looking for you what should I be looking for? PM me if you want - if you're in the room while I'm there I wouldn't mind introducing myself.

When are you in town? I'll be in Colorado from Wed-Sat. I usually play at Wynn in the 40. Tall, blonde and losing my hair. Ask the brush for Dave C.

June 1-10... wednesday through friday. I'll be busy wednesday to saturday of this week and plan on playing a couple of sessions the following week.

Is the 40 better at the wynn if I decide to play?

Oh yah, what/who is the "brush"?

Clarkmeister

The Wynn 40 is tougher than the Mirage 40 right now.

Brush is like a floorman.

MarkD

Cool.

I really want to play in "tough" games - but that can wait until I am better off financially.

* Before anyone comments on how that is dumb my reasoning is simple - I want to play tough games against tough competition so I can improve my game. I think I would see more improvement faster in the environment stated above then in any other environment and my goal is to be able to beat these "tough" games and that is only possible with experience. It's too bad they only exist in environments where the money is pretty big.

I play at the Wynn almost exclusively lately too, but in the 15/30 which is usually either soft of very soft.

Exponentially better shift managers and a far more accomadating room manager. I choose to give them my business because of those reasons as long as there is a viable 40 game going.

Brush is essentially a list attendant who seats players and sometimes doubles as a chip runner and occasionally deals if needed.

Not to mention the proximity to the parking garage. I absolutely agree. The room in general feels very accomdating and I like it, but when i decide to jump back up it will be to the mirage 20 and the B 30 for probably quite a while before the wynn 40. I forget sometimes that you're not a pro and don't have consider $EV quite so rigidly.

Thanks for the explanation -- I'd never have guessed that on my own, but yes, the Asian guys are insanely superstitous. And of course, they've got a crapload of gamboool in them for the most part.

My flight lands at McCarran at 11, and the gameplan is to be seated in the Aladdin 3/6 or 4/8 game by noon. I'll have a brown trout card protector, assuming I remember to bring the damned thing.

i hear you man. i sat at a table with some ROUGH competition. 2 ppl had like 2 times the max buy in and everyone else was like local pro or whatever! i sat and played. i wanted to know where i was in terms of poker and realized i have a lot of work to do! one of the best lessons i learned came from playing at that table.

Mark,

I'm not a nightclub person, but from what I hear, the two hottest clubs right now are Tangerine (Treasure Island) and Body English (Hard Rock). Tangerine is relatively small, with a balcony overlooking the "bay" -- Body English is a considerably larger club, with the typical Hard Rock vibe. I've only been to these clubs once each. They were both packed beyond belief, and I think the Martinis I bought were about $18 each. Like I said, I'm not a big fan of these sort of places.

Two other clubs that are always popular are Rain (Palms) and Light (Bellagio). These are several years older than those I mentioned above. Of these two, I prefer Rain, mainly because of the giant ring of fire in the center of the club. These are both big clubs by Vegas standards. They also attract a lot of celebs.

Have fun in Vegas. Good luck at the tables.

Mark - you should also note that some of the place mentioned here are more ultra-lounges than clubs and that they prefer you to buy bottles of liquor rather than drinks. I would also suggest for a club - Studio 54(MGM) for a decent LV (mimicking NYC)experience. Also if you have the cash try buying some VIP tickets on the net to skip the long lines.

I went to the Tangerine a couple nights after it opened last summer. Pretty cool but $26 for 2 drinks kinda sucked but I guess you would pay that at any club. Probably why I don't go to many clubs.
