He was at the 11s a couple weeks ago. 8 tabling or probably 12 tabling them.

Attribute it variance, sample size, self-fulfilling prophesies, or whatever, but I can easily beat the 22s and just can't seem to improve beyond breaking even at the 33s.

What he said. Itm 40%+ in the 22s and 35%~ in the 33s.

I havent played many 33s but sometimes it seems like a regular 22 (or 11 even) and sometimes its awfully tight.I might just build enough roll for 55s in the 22s and leave the 33s for the 12-tablers.

FWIW, I started to go this route as well, but one of the experienced SnG'ers here talked me out of it. His attititude was that if you can't beat the 33s, you won't be able to beat the limits beyond the 55s.

So, if you're happy with the 55s forever, go for it -- otherwise, you probably should figure out how to beat the 33s (and let me know how once you do /images/graemlins/smile.gif).

33s kicked my ass so far also. I don't give up that easily though.

He's probably doing some wacko Curtains thingy where he is learning to play more tables and has a formula of how much bankroll he needs to move up.

OR

He has been going HU with Giga (who spots him 20%) and keeps busting. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

dfscott,

are you suggesting that:

-it's feasible to be beating the $55s but not the $30s (for some reason?)
-but if beating the $55s in this case, it'd be very doubtful that one would also be beating the $100s/$200s

i dunno, i never played them until a couple of weeks ago. but, i have seen more than enough monkeys at the level to know for certain that i can beat them.

edit: and even though i have only about 50 of them, i have definately pulled some profit out

You haven't seen me at your tables lately, so they can't be too bad!

He or someone else who plays on his screen name has been at my table at the 11s 5 or 6 times this month.

I can beat the 30s for about 10% ROI. At the moment I am 4 tabling with overlap, but will be getting a new monitor soon for 6 tabling no overlap.

Moneywise, can is it more profitable to 4 table the 20s as opposed to 4 tables of 30?

I am four tabling the 33's at only around 14% last 1000 tourns. Still though something mentally about the third place prize money in the 22's I just can't play them anymore.

Impostors! They will get what's coming to them...

Actually, we did play together the other day in a 20+2... neither of us made the money /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I played with this person, whoever it is just now and it totally tilted me. I was playing very tight and then all of a sudden I found myself making the most ridiculous play I've made, possibly ever.

I did this, and it worked out very well. I had around 18-20% ROI in the 22s. I played about 20 33s, hated them (too few chips, too many good players), and skipped up to the 55s. I played about 150 55s at break even. I wrote those tournaments off as my learning curve. Since then, I've been pretty consistently winning. 11% ROI, 36.6% ITM, the last 300 tournaments (At 276 tournaments, my ROI was 15.6%. Since then, I've been on a bit of a losing streak).
About $1700 in profit, which is difficult to do in the 22s.

Is the consensus here that the $30s should be avoided? Anyone disagree with this?

Me too. Beat the $33s then worry about the $55s.

33's are a cake walk. I wish i knew how to code cuz i could write a bot to beat them.

Play tight early. Go crazy on the blinds at lvl 5. Push every hand HU.

Follow that and you're ROI will be at least 10. Read shadow's list and you'll hit 15+.

I agree generally about the 33s. This advice is missing something though. You have to get to level 5 with enough chips to go crazy. You have to accumulate some chips in levels 1-4 or your FE will be gone by the time level 5 rolls around. You don't need a ton, but you have to pick up a few blinds or small pots here and there or else you are just going to have to get lucky and double up later.

Any strategy guide that fits in one line is obviously over-simplistic, but the point was that they are still plenty easy to beat.

My newest tricks picking up pots early are 'The PVS' and 'The Gamboholic' (pushing LVL 1 or 2 when too many ppl limped).
