View Full Version : Should one be allowed to raise an 'under raise'?

If someone bets £10, then the next player goes all in for their last £11 (raising £1), and then the bet is called by at least one other, and isn't raised, is the original bettor now allowed to raise? How about if the second player went all in for £19? What are the correct rules governing such scenarios?

Thanks,

Gavagai

No. You are not allowed to reraise an all-in smaller than a min-raise.

The rules work like this:

Player A bets $10
Player B goes all-in for $11
Player C calls $11

Player B's bet is NOT considered as raise. Therefore the ORIGINAL raiser cannot re-raise.

However, Player C IS allowed to raise. If he does then PLayer A gets full control and can re-raise.

The exact rules vary from casino to casino and from site to site. In some it is if Player B raises even one cent less than the minimum then it is considered a call. In the majority (I think) up to 50% minimum is considered a call. Any more than that is a raise and can be re-raised.

Actually, on many sites and casinos the "cut-oof" point is 50% of the minimum raise.

Yeh thats the issue im concerned about- which percentage would be considered a raise. So do we all agree that I should apply this 50% rule in my home games? Cos that's where the trouble arises. Online I just follow however the site does it.

Thanks,

Gavagai

The 50% rule comes from limit. No-limit all but died out in live cardroom until recently and, as a result, many rooms now running no-limit games are misapplying limit rulings (such as this one) without realizing they are doing it. There was a discussion about this in the B&M forum sometime in the past couple months; you might be able to find it if you do a search.

Why the 50% rule in Limit?
