Gotta play both of them. I generally call/raise 50/50 in hand 2.

I think you played hand 1 perfectly.

Hand 2 I generally bet turn, river is based on read whether I check/call, bet/fold, or check/fold. I only check turn when the guy is an unpredictable LAG and I don't want to think about what to do if he raises (which is bad).

Hand 1 is fine.
I would bet the turn in hand 2, and usually bet the river if he calls unless i have a read that he will not call without a pair. Also, if i bet the turn and get raised, i may call down depending on whether my opponent is tricky or not.
