I have been under a ton of stress lately, so I wen't in the back bedroom/office of my house and pulled out my stamp collection tonight. I have not looked at it in about a month. I did not realize how calming it was until I looked at it again tonight. I collect Mint Condition U.S. commemerative Postage Stamps. I probably have about $3K to $5K invested in it, and it is still growing, I am just back at the point where I am getting to some of the more expensive ones from the late 1800's.
This is a major stress relief for me IMHO.
So My Hobby is Stamp Collecting...What is yours???

When I was younger I had a similar hobby with comic books and cards. Collecting them and organizing them has a strange calming effect. It was nice.

Immediately before poker, my main hobby was collecting and trading live music. My collection is primarily Smashing Pumpkins (and Zwan after SP) and Radiohead, but it's well-diversified. Other than that, I pretty much play a bunch of sports - hockey, tennis, softball, kickball, dodgeball, broomball, and I used to inline skate quite a bit. It's been a while since my hunting and fishing days.

A weird thing about baseball cards, i just found out from my mom that when i was born she got a box of baseball cards (1987 then '88 then '89) a few hundred in all. She forgot about them until a couple of weeks ago when she was going through my old stuff. First card I pulled: ruben sierra when he was with the rangers. after looking through them: a roger clemens w/ the sox. These card will be my new hobby. of course, until i sell them.

Pottery, although I really don't like it and probably won't do it ever again. I guess I just post on 2+2 and play video games for the time-being. I think sports, homework and trying to get laid a lot will take up all my time next year, leaving me with no time for casual hobbies.

Collecting older coins is fun and can be profitable if you know what your doing.
Oh and Hot Wheels, before you laugh some of these little .50-$1.00 cars can bring in a nice chunk of change.

My new hobby is photographing. There is a nice forest-lake very close, less then a mile, to my house and if you go there early in morning its good chances you will see elks&deers sometimes there. And even if you dont, its so relaxing walk around in nature and just listen the sounds of nature.. without usual sounds of cars etc.

Steve,
Go trap/skeet shooting. It is amazingly effective with stress relief. It's not too expensive either.
Contact sports such as football, hockey, and boxing do a decent job as well.

Those little plastic models. Painting those really small plastic pieces forces concentration and is calming.

Knitting! It is so calming, and I feel like I'm accomplishing something small and mine in the end. I'm a serial starter though; I start lots of projects & have very few complete, "finished" things to show for maybe a year & a half's worth of knitting projects. (I also have a bad ancillary "hobby" of searching for and hoarding yarn.)
Before I used to tend lots of plants, and before that I grew a few plugs of portabello mushrooms.
I'm also a big reader as well, I find it a relief to complete a new novel just by dedicating all spare time to it-- binge & purge brainstyle.
