I've always had a knack for figuring possibilities and probabilities almost instantly and I've always enjoyed cards, but growing up in Maryland I never got the opportunity to play a "real" game of poker. When I moved down to New Orleans, I decided to give the poker room at harrah's a shot. I started playing 1-5 stud and won a $1200 badbeat jackpot my first session. From there I learned holdem, and then was forced to learn omaha because that's where all the action is there, and oh what great action. I had won $1300 in the previous night's 12 hour session at the 1-4-8-8 (don't ask how, I just couldn't lose) and I was feeling giddy so the next night I decided to play 4-8-12-12. It's not unusual to see it capped preflop with 6 or seven players seeing the flop, so the pots are nice. This one hand comes up and I have A /forums/images/icons/heart.gif J /forums/images/icons/spade.gif 6 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif 4 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif on the button. Not having any frame of reference or having done any reading about the game, I'm seeing just about every flop, cause that's what they're doing. capped preflop, 6 way action. flop is Q /forums/images/icons/spade.gif T /forums/images/icons/spade.gif 4 /forums/images/icons/heart.gif . Bet by a fun loving and very readable guy, raised by drunk moron who's stack was huge because of some unbelievable hands which he raised to the river regardless of what he had, and I cap cause it was gonna be capped anyway (give me a break, I was new at this). I need a K for the nuts and a spade for 3rd nut flush. turn is 7s giving me Jack hi flush. Readbale guy is downright giddy when he sees the card and fires in a bet immediately, raise by drunk moron, called by me ($400 pot at this point), then capped by readable. 5s gives me the straight flush, so I do have a shot, even though I know readable has nut flush. Since I know where everybody is and I know nobody's folding (and I'm new and having a blast), I say "I need the 5 of spades"!! There's a crowd around the table, pot is up around $450, and river comes........... 4 /forums/images/icons/diamond.gif . Readable is still and sulky, but fires in a bet anyways. Drunk moron (who I have put on nothing by the way) excitedly raises. I sat still while I watched this take place, in my brain, my cards are already in the muck........ but wait. I get a big s**t-eating grin on my face and scream "RAISE!!". Immediately Readable screams "GOD DAMMIT" and mucks. Drunk moron calls and turns over nothing but AA. I proclaim "Jack hi flush" and Readable once again, butmuch louder, screams "GOD DAMMIT" and walks away from the table pulling his hair out. it takes me about 5 minutes to rake all those white and red chips in, gave the dealer a jefferson, and I was hooked on casino poker ever since.

When Readable returned to the table, he said he knew I had a 4 because I said I needed the 5s, and he figured the river 4 filled me up. And if it didn't he was pretty sure the moron hit the boat. I told him if he had been sitting at the table long enough, he would've known the moron raises every hand to the river, but since he just sat down, he had no way of knowing. We laughed about the hand while playing for the next few hours, and that remains the biggest pot I have ever bought.

omaha...you hold
A /forums/images/icons/heart.gif J /forums/images/icons/spade.gif 6 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif 4 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif

flop w/turn is...
Q /forums/images/icons/spade.gif T /forums/images/icons/spade.gif 4 /forums/images/icons/heart.gif (7 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif )

where will a 5 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif give you a str8 flush? you have 3 to a str8 flush..not even a gutshot to it...there's no 8 or 3 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif on the board

you both misread the board

You're right bernie, thanks for calling me on it. I was trying to remember it down to the last detail and guess i didnt get it all right. I know the 7 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif came on the turn which means the 3 /forums/images/icons/spade.gif and not the T /forums/images/icons/spade.gif was on the flop (that's how he knew i had the 4). It was a true story even though all the details might not be 100% accurate (it was several years ago).
