I'm looking for a good charity to give a lil' money to in order to make myself feel like I'm doing something productive.

Anyone know of some that they feel do some real good? I'm sure I'll get a couple jokes, but hopefully I'll find the right place too. Thanks guys.

Agreed. I'm working on this too. There's a rape crisis center that I wanted to help at, but they don't hire guys. I guess I understand, but it kinda sucked. I'm looking for places.

If you know of anywhere in the Madison, WI area, lemme know.

I think your best bet is a local community charity - they will make the best use of your money. Most of the larger national/international charities have far too much over head and money gets "misappropriated" Heres some good places to look (http://www.charitywatch.org/toprated.html)

Great link, thanks.

I'm thinking about this (http://www.africare.org/how/life_member/index.html) .

What do you think?

i'm way north in canada - usually at universities/colleges there are "women's centres" that deal with similar situations as rape centres - maybe that'd be the place to look.

i agree about the "guys can't help" sentiment - but i've come to realize as you have that it's undoubtedly for the best - and that there's other things we can do

the link you provided seemed pretty legit - i wouldn't hesitate in tossing money their way

Seems like a great organization. Just a heads up - once you donate you will likely get hit up for more money from them very frequently after.

Volunteer for some pro-choice organization, because you know those chicks put out.

This may not be an issue in Madison (which I assume is fairly liberal), but Planned Parenthood sometimes needs volunteers to escort women past pro-life protesters and into the clinic.

They do accept male volunteers. The enviroment can be volitile, and very difficult on a young woman who is often in a very lonely place. I think it's really worthwhile, though I have no idea if it's contrary to your politics or personal ethics.

Buy a bunch of cool stuff for a children's cancer center. If that does not make you feel good, nothing will.

Wherever you send the money, do it anonymously. If you give a charity 300 bucks and give them your name and address, they'll spend more than that over the next five years trying to get you to give more.

How many pieces of paper + printing costs = $300? They dont have to pay stamps and the people soliciting you are volunteers. Please link to your source.

To the OP. I agree with the sentiment of giving to a childrens cancer center. There are many other good ones however. Pick one that feels right for you.
