Purely theoretical question here:

Everyone has 1500 chips, blinds at 10/20.

folds to MP makes it 100, next guy calls 100, a couple folds later and it's to you. Do you call with 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif8 /images/graemlins/heart.gif here hoping for a set and all the raisers chips?

If yes, do you call with any pair?

How big does the raisers stack have to be for calling for set value to be correct?

Is 1/15th of your stack too much to risk? Looking for any and all responses

You're on the button, you've got stack in a Stars tourney, there's a limper around, 88 isn't a horrible hand to be playing.... I think I call here. And I fold 55 or lower. 88 has some, however little overpair value, and is better at winning unimproved.

I fold 88 or lower in EP or MP, maybe its a leak..
It's different at higher levels I'm sure, at my $11s, theres easily a RR around back, so no point to call.

Flop a set and you usually win and frequently get all their chips.

one in 8 to get your set.

So if I see a stack that is ten times the bet I call with any pair.

Miss my set I fold, get my set I hope that they have got top pair top kicker.

I believe that this is more or less standard pocket pair strategy.

If I get my set and the flop is rainbow and not connected then I may min-bet till they connect. If flush or straight draws are possible then I bet accordingly.
