I just went to open Firefox, and I was prompted to put in my user profile. To my knowledge, this has never happened before. I couldn't use the "default" profile, and had to create a new one. Now all my bookmarks/saved password are gone, and I don't know how to get them back.

This has happened to me three times now. Thankfully, it lets me keep switching between two existing profiles, but the first time was killer. Anyone know why this happens/how to prevent it?

how do you do this?

Almost positive this happens because a running firefox process did not terminate itself so it's still holding on to the user profile. Try closing all instances of firefox and using task manager to kill anything called 'firefox.exe'. If that doesn't work, restart. If that doesn't work, reinstall firefox.

Run it with "-profilemanager" as a parameter (close all open firefox windows first). The shortcut target should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager

Whenever you see this, definitely follow Freakin's advice and close all the firefox processes first. Firefox sucks at updating, so this happens.

There is an easy solution. Press CTRL ALT DEL and end the process firefox.exe

It will open fine after that.

for the record, this didn't work. illunions' suggestion did, though.
