I have a crappy generic optical mouse that I use, its ok for web surfing but I have trouble with it lagging around and (sometimes) behaving unpredictably. I want something that I can zoon around the screen with precision. What mouse or other pointing device do you guys use?

THanks

Seriously though, it sounds like you're working on either a metal or polished wooden desk. Optical mice perform better when there's not a shiny coat. Try using a cloth mousepad (no, really).

I use a track ball and love it. Using your thumb to zing that baby around is much easier. And you don't have to worry about running off the mouse pad or some huge range because it's stationary.

Go to a computer store and see if they will let you try and couple different ones out on an actual computer, probably the only way you'll get a good personal opinion on one. A mouse is really like a putter in golf. It's more about personal touch than real technology.

I just purchased the Logitech MX518 for $44 (http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?submit=&item=26-104-178&ATT=Mice&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch) and love it, but I also use it for games. I've never been a fan of cordless mice.
