Heading to Vegas next week and I'm trying to figure out the cheapest, safest and most convenient way to bring money. I will have about a $10K bankroll and don't want it dedicated to one casino. I don't want to rely on checkwriting b/c of bad experiences. Anybody have any good ideas about how best to do this?

You should have no problem bagging anything less than 50k and just bringing it with you and putting it in your hotel saftey deposit box. Heck I have heard of alot of people just carrying 100k or 200k on the plane with them like its no big deal. 10k Is not a big deal to carry to vegas.

the first two post are exactly what I do also. If you dont like this idea you could always open a bank account with a local bank over the internet and just transfer the money to them.

By 'how to get money to vegas' standards $10k is chumpchange. Like others have said I would just carry it. In 100s it wouldn't even be too much to stick in your pocket.

If theft/loss is your concern I imagine changing it to travellers checks would provide more security, but frankly I doubt its worth the trouble of changing it and then cahnging it back.

Anyway, if you're worried about losing the 10k don't take it to Vegas! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Options:

1) $100 bills (10k is alot, but it's been done before...I've gone about that high)

2) Travellers checks...minimize the risk, bring 4 or 5 grand in cash, the rest travelers

3) Wire the money to the Bellagio (call the casino and ask the cage for instructions). Banks charge about 15 for this, but the B. will wire your money back to your bank gratis at the end of your trip (or cut you a check).

if you are going to carry $10,000 to Vegas do it in style. get it all in $1 bills and bring a big briefcase full of money.

otherwise just wire it to the casino. believe me, the casino will make it easy for you. plus you should set up your comps when you wire the money.

Buy a billfold, stuff it full, put that in your coat pocket. What's the BFD?

Because a rubber band is cheaper. I didn't acrue this roll of hundreds by buying such frivolous things as a billfold.

Not to pick on you here, but this is something I see repeatedly written on 2+2 in the "how to bring money to Vegas" threads and it really strikes me as qutie stupid.

"$X is nothing by Vegas standards." WTF does that mean? Vegas is not the standard here, but rather the individual carrying the money. Of course "Vegas" isn't going to freak out because someone is carrying $X with them, but the OP is probably not comfortable carrying that much cash with him. How is telling him that other people routinely carry more to Vegas going to ameliorate his concerns in any way?

Anyone feel free to chime in.

Save time when you head to the slot machines by bringing everything in nickels. Nickels are about 5 grams each.

If he's not comfortable carrying the cash will he be comfortable gambling with it? Maybe he will, maybe not. Of course the OP should go with the option he is comfortable with. Carrying around more cash than you're comfortable with is definitly -EV.

You can get free travelers checks from AAA in denominations of $500 or $1000. At some branches you have to call ahead. Your bank can get them too for a fee. Getting $10,000 in $100 checks would be way too much hassle.

Or you could split in into two even stacks, pull the insoles out of your shoes, put the bills in, and replace the insoles. Plus you will be taller!

Or you could get a money belt.

But listen dude, just fold it over, rubber band it, and stuff it in you jeans. If you are going to play a lot you should just get used to it. I have flown with $50,000 in my cargo shorts when I was playing high stakes blackjack. No Biggie.

Wow is this dumb. These are two totally separate issues.

If carrying the cash really makes you uncomfortable then wire it to a casino, but rest assured that it really isn't that big of a deal and the chance of you losing the money en route is negligible, although losing it would indeed suck.

Otherwise do as Diablo (and countless others) have said: $100s + rubber band. It makes you feel like a badass anyway, which is worth something.

exactly. the argument that people shouldn't worry about carrying $X in cash because there's someone walking around vegas carrying more is retarded. morans.

I use an Elvis money clip and 100's. Once you're there, if carting around 10K makes you a little nervous, then lock up half of it and carry the other half. The $1 bills in a briefcase is funny. Bags of dimes would be even funnier, especially buying into the 30-60 or 40-80 games where the players are so serious.

I'm not comfortable carrying that much cash, especially through airports, given the number of government thugs out there looking to "make a big score."

I may be a moron, but at least I can spell it.

My point was that the OP is making a big deal out of nothing. Frankly I think that was a valid and useful response, unlike yours.

Ok, if the spelling was intentional then you are just a jerk. Happy?
