I had a big win the other night at the casino, and instead of gambling it all away, I put it in the bank today, and I just got finished ordering this beast....

I still have my e-mail addy from college up, so it was cheaper than if I had just gone to the regular Dell site. I probably could have built if for less though, but I would not have had a 4 year onsite warrenty if I did that.

for biz-purposes you should have went with their new financial workstations with DUAL XEON....after spending 7k how can you skimp on the mouse and keyboard, do yourself a favor and pickup a logitech wireless mouse/keyboard. You also need to be hooked up with Office 2k3.

other then that very good purchase. The terabyte of data is pretty solid and ram is g00t.

BTW, this machine WILL NOT be obsolete as the haters state. Machines will get better but in no way shape or form will you be behind the 8 ball by a whole yard.

very nice system, i think you went a little overboard on some stuff (4 gb memory) (500 gb disk space) but hell, that will last you forever. the only thing i MIGHT have changed (but they might not even offer it) is getting a nVidia GeForce 6800 ULTRA, but the card you got is VERY good anyways.

If it's a business computer for an online company you would be much better off buying 2 seperate computers and running through a KVM. It's best to keep webservers seperate from workhorses. I overlooked the two 2001FP's so I say you spent twice as much as you should of. Still, you would of been much better off posting your specific needs/requirements in a tech forum or even here and then getting advice before you dropped 7K. The last time I bought a computer for 7K it was a Quad CPU server for a beowolf cluster. As for crateway... no, not even close. I build quality.

And to be honest the stats on your list don't give any details. What brand name make model are the hard drives???

Why does a does a computer need all that power anyway??? It's not designed like a server (Modem 56K PCI Data Fax Modem) and looks like a gaming machine ( ATI Radeon™ X850) if it was a graphics design machine I would of expected to see a FireGL in it. This is not the case. And the 4 GB ram is overkill for gaming and not the ECC ram needed for a server. I don't know your specific situation/needs but you looked like you clicked what you thought was the best parts and clicked send. I honestly can't think of a situation where your specific design is required let alone optimal.

That being said, it is a nice flashy machine with impressive stats.

BTW if you want impressive CPU power:

Btw, my quality is better then Dell's quality. You'll never see a Lian-Li, artic silver, thermalright, or a coolermaster on a Dell. Yet those things aren't necessities,BUT THEY SURE ARE NICE! I never buy lowest bidder ram or have tier 2 power supplies (which is a neccessity). Ugh, we are getting into a pissing contest and that is not my intent.

No that is fine, I am not going to be running it as a server, I have my domains hosted. Basically I wanted a computer that will last. And yes 4G of Ram is a little overkill but if you have not been in the Internet Forum to see my 2 posts about my $18K win at Craps, or my $3K win at Blackjack, then you will not know that this month I have won $21K gambling, and I needed a new computer. So I went all out while I had the extra cash. I am the first to admit that I am a compulsive gambler when I go to the B&M but I have enough sense that once I am up if I start to lose I get the hell out of there.

And like I stated earlier since I am starting a business I can write 75% of the price off my taxes as 75% business use, 25% personal.

Wacki, Send me a PM or if you have AOL or AIM put that in the PM as well. I have some questions for you about computers that I do not want to post in OOT.

So your write off is like a 25-25% discount. You would get that same discount on a cheaper computer.

Some things are just overkill. That extra 400 bucks for 10% more speed. I also hope you didn't pay 750 dollars per 2001fp. That is at least 250 per monitor too much. I would have also gone with a 1-2 gigs of ram instead of 4 but that is because I know my swap never goes much past 1 gig and by the time it does ram will be a lot cheaper.

Steve, I suggest you post what you want to do here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/

You can PM me a link to the thread and I will make sure you are not steered wrong. Time is precious and I spend way too much time in OOT as is. Writing up a list and explaining everything will take me atleast an hour.

Still all the answers you need are given on a daily basis at anandtech. Just read the forums or post what you want to do and they will help you.
