I just turn the characters off in the video options so I don't even have to think about it.

If you are playing live, speak to the poker room host about doing this for you.

When I am in the middle of a hand everything fades out but the important details, the money fades out and who the opponent is fades out too. All that matters are the cards and the action. Im too busy processing information to remember that my opponent is cute.

I'll feel bad when she pouts as the pot is pushed to me but thats poker.

my friend wants to play in my home game, she happens to be pretty hot..knows the basics of poker, but really sucks at poker. i can see myself playing soft...sigh.....

I've played against girls before, but never a good looking girl. I usually play them the same and try to win as much money as possible, e.g. I don't feel bad about check-raising, bluffing, etc... On the other hand, I'm not one of those guys who tries extra hard to beat them, because I don't like losing to a girl. I just try to play my game and win money. I wonder if I would play different if she was attractive though? But honestly I doubt that I would.

now imagine she is a girl that comes along with a few benefits AND she is smoking hot. i do not want her at my game!! i will play soft and that is not my style. i've gone TO WAR with my best friend and took all of his chips (and vice versa)...let's hope it does not come to that!

I think that is one of the most stupid things someone has said in the psychology forum (and there have been some stunners recently).

If you want to stare at boobies, you go to a bar or a strip club. If you want to play poker, you go to the casino.

Cleavage is +EV - and a strong argument in favour of sunglasses at the table /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Why the need for sunglasses? If some cutie is diplaying her cleavage I take it as an invitation to enjoy the show.

The reason I ask is I'm a girl and I was considering saying myself to a man on pp...but then I got to thinking that maybe it was an advantage. I'm sure this is totally wrong thinking but since I'm a female I can say it but I've noticed that the women seem worse. It kills me to say it but it seems to be true. I'm probably better than all of you at math (i mean this half in jest), but as a general rule is it wrong to assume that the women are worse? Should I leave myself as a woman on party? I definitely think it helps me in the live games. The last game I played was me with 9 guys. I think when I sit down at the table I have the advantage of being underestimated. (I was the victor in that game). I felt like I had done my part for feminism that day.

Yes there is an advantage, being female gives off stereotypes, and any stereotype you sit down with can be used against someone who can't unlatch from that stereotype when proven wrong.

haha i find the change in tone when you knew there was a female reading this striking and pretty funny.

Busted indeed. The change of tone is the result of working in an office environment where the slightest comment can lead to "the summer off".

I'm a male and have actually changed avatars on party to female before. Make sure you get one of the hotty avatars and not the old hags. The difference in play by others is amazing! I still don't know how to respond when some guys flirts with me. That's the friggin freaky part. But go to a SnG and say to the board "be nice to me boys, I'm kinda new at this" and they play so soft it kills me. I laugh all the way to the bank. Hey, whatever works...as long as I take my high heels off before leaving the house /images/graemlins/wink.gif

And no, I'm not gay. Married for 15 yrs and 3 kids.

I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of "females" on party poker are actually men.

Kind of like when someone with the nickname "MoneyMakerAA" turns out to be a TAG.

the term for that is mangina lol i would NEVER play soft against a "female" online. in real life if the stakes were small yeah i would play soft, if the stakes were real and i wanted to win badly, no chance i'm playing soft. and i do not underestimate girls at the poker table. i have played against girls and bust them like i bust any other player at the table xD

If it is in fact true that you are a woman and not some guy scamming us with this post then you should try to find a copy of the now out of print Poker For Women by Mike Caro which deals with this subject. Also Cathy Hulbert's essay in Gambling Wizards by Richard Munchkin (sic) would be of interest to you and is in print.

haha why would i be scamming you? i saw a book at b&n today that was something like the "sassy girls' guide to poker" and it made me want to throw up. i dont think i would ever buy "poker for women" because i feel like [censored] you i can play poker like everyone else, but maybe there is something in there for me to exploit myself and "laugh all the way to the bank". I guess I'll have to make sure and sit in that left seat on party more often (the one with the yellow dress).

maybe not 90%....but pretty darned high nonetheless.

i tried it out on one site. name of cUtIeKaTiE
i think the opponents underestimated me for awhile.

After my 5th or 6th C/R on 6/max and taking another pot some guy said, "Man....Katie is one aggresive bitch!!"
TOok that as a compliment.
But I'm not sure that everyone recognizes whether I am playing solidly or not.

Naturally...I sometimes will type things like, "Tee-Hee!" and "Wheeee....This is FUUUUUUUUNNNN" in the chat-box just to mess with people.

There is no pic or avatar...but just based on the name I have been flirted with quite a bit.
I have no idea if it is an advantage or not...but it DEFINITELY changes the opinion that other players have of me.

The Caro book I mentioned is very good and is not condescending at all, as it in fact teaches women how to exploit men's attitudes and behaviours toward them. Plus the Cathy Hulbert essay (really an interview), while not addressing this topic directly, is nevertheless written by a top female professional player and is very good.

P.S. Sit in the seat on the right w/the frumpy orange do istead and see if that adds +EV to your sessions.

From what I've seen on TV it looks to me like Daniel Negranu is very skillful at extracting information from people with his friendly banter. Anytime he gets a response from someone I think it helps him. I think he reads the subtle tones in the voice as well as what gets said.

I think Annie Duke has similiar success with her friendly subtlely flirtatious presence. I imagine she's a killer in ring games where a lot of guys feel like responding to her rather than sitting there with a silent poker face.

I've got to think that a woman with flirtation skills has a natural advantage in drawing men out like this. Daniel shows a man can do it but it's a natural for a lot of women. Of course reading the information extracted this way is another skill entirely.

I've never played live with a hot girl, but most likely I would check-raise the [censored] until she busted out. With so many guys handing these women the world for the gift of a smile, someone has to keep it real.
