I was surfing through my hand history and found this hand. Looking at it after playing the hand, I don't like how it went.

$5-10 NL 8 handed online
Villain is UTG+1 ($1037)
SB ($1495)
Hero ($735)

Villain limps UTG+1, SB completes, Hero checks with A /images/graemlins/heart.gif 9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif in the BB.

Flop comes 7 /images/graemlins/spade.gifA /images/graemlins/club.gif4 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif.
SB checks, I check (????), Villain bets $20, SB folds, I call. Since the Villain was UTG+1, and having no reads, I was fearful that he could have limped with a higher ace in EP but in hindsight he could just be betting with PP. I think I should have bet there.

Turn 7 /images/graemlins/spade.gifA /images/graemlins/club.gif4 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif9 /images/graemlins/club.gif
Hero leads out for $40, Villain calls $40. Not sure what to put him on here, a strong ace? two pair? set? draw?

River 7 /images/graemlins/spade.gifA /images/graemlins/club.gif4 /images/graemlins/diamond.gifJ /images/graemlins/heart.gif
Hero bets $75, Villain raises to $225, Hero ???

Basically my though process was that he river a higher two pair, slowplayed a set, has a lower two pair, or POSSIBLY trying to take the pot with a broken 5 6 straight draw. What do I do, I didn't know what to put him on with that river raise? Comments on all streets appreciated.

That bet was way too small on the turn - $100 sounds right. You now have no info on his hand. He could have anything on the river.

if you have him on a wide spectrum of hands, why not check/call the river, thus avoiding a difficult decision. that line of call/ bet when checked to/ check will induce bets from many more marginal holdings and some busted draws. it may seem a little conservative of a play, but when you cant get a strong read on an opponent that seems like the sensible thing to do.

If it's me, I freak out when the 9/images/graemlins/club.gif disappears on the river. And when I freak out, I usually just go all in.

Hah, honestly, though.....

No reasonable draw got there, so the only things you're beat by are a set and AJ. With no read on opponent, I call here. Could very well be a bluff or a lower two pair.

As far as your line goes...
PF: Fine.
Flop: Fine. Sometimes I check here, sometimes I lead.
Turn: If you're going to lead, lead more. I think I might try for a check-raise here, probably folding to a re-raise.
River: Given your action, I call. If you had check-raised, I would lead the river for about 2/3 the pot, and fold to a push.

Call, click away the pokertable, move on to a pornsite and then go back 10 min later to see if you won or not

I do that sometimes

Think I win more often by doing that
