captheflop

So-so 12/24 game, a group of okay but not great players, myself included based upon this hand.
I'm in the BB with KK. 6 limpers to me and I raise. UTG 3-bets, all call back to me. Normally this is an autocap for me, but for some strange reason decide to just call and check-raise any flop.
Flop: A 8 2 rainbow
I check, everybody checks.
Turn: Q of 4th suit
I bet and get two callers
River: 4
I check, next player says 'I sucked out bad, i'll check'. 3rd player checks.
Other two players had 44 and KQ and I lose.
The question is, how many mistakes did I make?
1. Not capping preflop
2. Not leading the flop
3. Should I have value bet river and folded to raise?
Also,
What about my esteemed opponents? Oh yeah, one more fact. I had been getting my brains beat in for the past 3 hours. Every time I had JJ, someone had QQ, every time i turned a straight, someone rivered a flush. If I flopped two pair, someone flopped a set....I think you get the point. I had become a little gunshy by this point.
