View Full Version : Nothing better than a player who seeks "revenge"

Whoever added this forum had a great idea. I believe that the psychology of poker plays just as important a role to winning poker as pot odds, starting hands, ect. With that being said he are some things I have learned from playing at the table.

Some players take losing so personal they will lose money just to beat a certain player. In this situation the player I refer to is myself.

Last night I had a very profitable session sitting at a $4-$8 game at the Tropicanna casino in Atlantic City. Normally I don't play there, however last night I played in the $25 buy in Hold Em tournament. After players get bounced from the tournament the ring games can become quite good. Most of the players sit at the table to enjoy themselves and play recreationally.Of course I also play recreationally, I just like to think I play a tad better than these players do.

I beat one player at the the table with AQ to his pocket Kings when I flopped an Ace and he wanted to get "even" with me from that hand on. I have never played with this person before let alone seen him before.

Every time I raised this player came along for the ride. I do mean EVERY time. He played for about two hours, but in that hour he donated close to $400 to the table. He lost roughly 50 Big Bets. After a while he started reraising me or if I limped he would raise behind me. He sat two seats to my left.

I found this enlightening because I knew I could only raise with the correct hands for the position I held, and that this player would attempt to keep me honest and I couldnt steal any pots. Whenever I raised he said "you raised, I have to call" he also reraised me several times after I limped, so I started limping with my good hands and let him raise for me. Needless to say, this player went on FULL tilt.

I also have had a similiar situation a few weeks back where a player told me before every hand that he wanted to play a hand against me. I see this player regularly and he does not play well at all. I raised and he called the bet only to see what I would raise with. Fortunately for me I raised with AK and flopped an A. He called me down with nothing.

Even though I do have a tight aggressive image, sometimes players want to see what you will play with. They are willing to play a hand to a showdown just to see what I held. Spotting these table "cops" or "revenge" seekers can help me decide when to bluff and when not to bluff.

I dont know if anyone else can relate to this post, however next time you play take a look around. See what players take losing personal and seek revenge. Then plan the best course of action to disapoint them.

If anyone else has any similiar situations, please post them.

Best Wishes

When you have someone going on revenge mode against you, you own him. When you're heads ups, cut down on your bluffs and semi-bluffs but bet or call him down more often with your medium strength hands, and sometimes with those that are slightly weaker.
