View Full Version : gigabet is my hero

I had been playing awful until this point. I needed to do something to get going again.

Is this fancy play syndrome or should I be doing more of this at the 109s?

I don't like it. There's no way you're going to have enough FE to make up for the fact that you have almost no draw when called. If you have a super read (I believe Gigabet's principles rely heavily on knowing and exploiting your opponent's tendencies) that you didn't include in the post, that might change things. If you had even stacks and you weren't going all-in, this play would be super. Also, if your opponent started the hand with ~t1000 it might be fine as is. The hand posted is pretty clearcut FPS though.

You raised to 175 after 4 limpers lvl 1? I think that should say t75

I had just restolen from this guy for the first time a couple of hands ago, and I had the distinct feeling he wanted revenge. I think I also deserve bonus points for identifying a player at the 10s who would make this laydown.

EDIT: To answer the original question, I don't think it's fancy play syndrome. It can be difficult to identify when this kind of move is going to work, but for a shortstack in particular to take this kind of line looks really intimidating, because people are more used to an open desperation push from the shorties. Thus, it looks like you want to get paid, which should help ensure that you do, in a way.

The stacks are all t800, meaning it's a low buy-in SnG. You shouldn't even be open raising to t75 in these games, much less raising 4 limpers. t175 is a great raise. Being that it's the first hand and he got a ton of callers, the flop push is pure insanity.

Buh, I think it would be better if you had a stack left after the raise. If he had enough stack to bust him he would probably fold Ace with bad kicker. As it is he might call with 9s.

Having no stack behind you should make it worse for him to call with a draw, but I wouldn't count on him seeing it that way.

Edit: That said, you could make an argument (to Lorinda) that you need this pot.

If he's gonna bet that much pre-flop I think pushing that flop isn't so bad. Sure he's losing to AK, AA, KK and probably KQ but chances are that other hands were calling him (I'm only worried much about AK here).

Meh....yeah, the play is also so un-Gigabet I'm not sure how it even relates to any thread having to do with Giga.

PVS: In the 109s this is an acceptable way to play the hand vs. many opponents. You have *just* enough chips behind to make the allin raise viable here.

I don't think it's FPS. You know hero doesn't have an ace, and you are hurting for chips. It's tough to make that play with so little behind, but IMO it's worth the risk considering you are desperate.

You might have even had the best hand /images/graemlins/smile.gif
