View Full Version : Time to improve my game

I've been playing the $50s for about a year now and I've just had a 3 week break even run. Although I know it's possible to play 5-600 sngs and break even when playing well it's likely that there are numerous leaks in my game that need sorting out. I've taken some hands from my last few games and I'd appreciate any and all comments. I'm not a math type player, I just do what feels right from experience and what I've learnt from this forum. Maybe I should have a play with Eastbay's tool or something? If there are any math guys who want to start exchanging HH's then please PM me.

Presumably you believed him. Why?

Not sure i would. In fact id be more inclined to believe he has nothing when saying he does. This may be a level too shallow however.

Not sure you can effectively do this online - maybe thats just me though.

Any way i look at it, id be inclined to fold it on the flop anyway - you showed strenth, he shows a lot more with the check-raise, the fold is right imo, i just dont get why asking is good.

What if he shows AT? This shows to the table you can be bluffed of 'big hands'. Just fold it quietly.

Again, i emphasise this is all in my opinion, take that how you want

In general I think it's good to talk in that you sometimes get people softplaying you if you've made friends with them. Specifically in this example I asked because a) in my experience people tell the truth and expect you to think it's a lie b) he's more likely to show when I fold which gives me information. He did show and I started laughing because there was a perfectly logical reason for him to say what he did. If you're interested I'll tell you what he had a bit later.

Yes, it's interesting why I make that move a lot against a SB limper but not if someone else has limped as well. I think I probably feel suspicious in general about limpers. In this particular case they both had me easily outchipped so I would have expected a call. I'm feeling all weak tight now /images/graemlins/smile.gif.

If someone who normally enters with a raise and now he limps I would be suspicious. If he limps all the time, I'd push this PF. Winning that extra $200 means you don't have to do it as often to make the same amount of money. You do have to consider the stack sizes of you and you opponents though. Good point.

You are ahead of T2, T6, and 62, so I'm confused....I think I might call here, mostly because I have a good flush redraw in case he flopped a set.

Well, I only just moved up to the $50s, but here's my take.

1. Great. One thing, I like waiting until at least 100/200 blinds before starting to do this...if the SB completes at level 4 or earlier, I won't raise/push unless I really need chips. My idea is to make sure he believes me when way more chips are at stake. But this is 150/300 so I'm just rambling.

Hand #2 - Like I said elsewhere in this post, I might call on the flop since I have the Jh.

Hand #3 - I don't like pushing from the BB with a limper, either. This may be a leak for both of us though. I would just check/fold this hand I think.

Hand #4 - I like this play, he could be betting anything here. But I wouldn't do this with KK, I would just call.

Hand #5 - I would fold preflop, playing a raised pot could easily eat all my chips here and I don't want to risk it all on a smallish pair out of position when my stack is quite healthy. If I didn't fold preflop but raised like you did, I would probably feel like a weak/tight loser as I check/folded the flop.

You are ahead of T2, T6, and 62, so I'm confused....I think I might call here, mostly because I have a good flush redraw in case he flopped a set.

He had 66 for the set. He was concerned about me having a /images/graemlins/heart.gif so he said what he did.

I think people are maybe underestimating the benefits of talking to people. Probably cos everyones 8 tabling they have no time. As an example I pushed on the bubble the other day and some guy is taking ages to decide what to do. Muppet to my left tells him to call. I got the hump with that and raised all in every time he was in the pot or was BB. He didn't have the bottle to do what he was telling the other guy to do and got blinded out calling me lots of rude words because I was picking on him. If you shouldn't be rude to the big stack perhaps there are advantages to making friends with him instead no?

I agree, I think talking to people is underrated. For example, if I push trash and suck out on a caller in the blinds, I often say something like "sorry about that, nice call." I figure it calms them down a bit and makes them less likely to make spite calls when I start stealing from them again.
