Very first hand of the tournament, I dumped off over half my chips here. It was made worse when MP1 showed his A9 after I folded.

I played this like [censored], right? Someone tell me what I should have done differently.

Would have been nice to get a reply in the past two minutes /images/graemlins/tongue.gif This is exactly four hands later. I probably played this poorly because I was thinking about my last disaster with AKs.

I've got no problem check-folding the turn normally, but I picked up 9 extra outs, so I felt this was a good place to semi-bluff.

certainly a little trickier eh? well...you do only have 1 card to come after all. i guess we have three choices:

1. check, hope he checks or gives you correct odds to call
2. push "i'm done playing w/ you puck...i have the nut"...considering your outs
3. buy the river cheap... where cheap = 'x'. is 'x' what you bet? a bit much maybe. of course any less and you stand a chance of getting reraised.

i'm voting them in this order - i stick w/ the check

Never, ever, ever, ever, EVER check the river after leading the entire way unless you are (a) 100% sure that you are beat, or (b) trying to check raise. Never. That was weak.

I probably would have played it similar, but would have pushed the river and either cleaned up or started a new sng.

I would probably give up on the flop. If I decided to bet the turn I would push. But I hate semi-bluffing in an 800-chip buy-in tournament.

fyp.

Either that or check-fold the turn.

I used to lose a lot of money in these situations as well. With 2 callers and you only having position on one, I check/fold the missed flop. If you were last to act, you might be able to consider a continuation against two tight opponents, but lately I've started only doing this versus one opponent. As ilya said, with 800 chips, you don't have a lot of room to splash around.

I can't think of a worse flop for AK than t87 2s with 2 opponents. Why bet??

You would normally think your ace high is good after villain calls 2 big bets?

I check immediately on flop, board is too coordinated for me to try to bet against 2 opponents.

I probably had just got done reading the continuation bet part of HOH while on the john.

I like checking here too. How about if it checks around? Take a stab at it when I pick up the flush draw, or just keep checking it?

Given that flop, I'm checking and hoping for a free turn. My sng results have gone WAY up since I stopped playing AK so strong in levels one and two. Sometimes you're up against multiple opponents and the flop is bad. Check and hope to pick up an ace, king, or spade on the turn here. AK is a great hand short handed and when there is a lot of dead money in the pot. In the early going, I'm not going to cripple myself with it if I miss and the flop is scary. Just my two cents...

I check hand 1 for the same reason

hand 2 I fold, and after thinking about it for the easier it gets to lay this down.

I agree with the flop check. I also used to mess around with the continuation bet almost every time, and have realized there isn't THAT much in there to go after and with two opponents, you're likely to be called by at least one. Especially with this structure, it's very crippling.

If the flop checks around, I'd usually check the turn as well. Many players at the low levels probably will call the turn with any pair since it looks like a bluff out of you.
