View Full Version : Cup of Coffee

Perhaps someone can explain this phenomenon I see at Party 3/6 fairly regularly: people buying in way min (say $30 or $40), playing four or five hands (like having a cup of coffee with us), and then bolting the table. Then a little while later, they come back and do it again. I don't get it.

Perhaps they are trying to avoid playing the SB?

It's annoying when people keep sitting out for 2 reasons:

1) Potentially less people in the pot.

2) They usually do this in front of me, meaning I hit the BB sooner than I should.

That said, when I'm ending a session I stay until it's my turn to post the BB.

Yeah, they are trying to avoid the SB payment, but the problem is...if you don't play the blinds then you will never have the button. And in my opinion, the button is far more valuable than a half a bet.

Look in PTO, are you averaging 1 SB OTB? I'll bet you aren't.

I will always try to post from the CO to save that SB. However IMHO the struggle to find a good game, then wait for a seat to open up, ... isn't worth getting up to miss the SB again.

Ok, I looked at the numbers and here is what I have.

Please understand, this is a very small sample size 814 hands,

On the button: .25 BB/ hand

On the SB: .16 BB/ hand

That is hands that I have not thrown away pre flop.

The button and SB are where I have made most of my money, but it is really too early to call.
