GTA 3 -----Turismo is kicking my aaaassssssss!!!

Seriously, no car is doing it for me. I tried bringing the tank over from Staunton Island (ive beaten the rest of the missions) and then as the race begins, running into to blow up the other cars, but then after its over the phone is still on the map and when I answer it, Turismo starts again. Do I have to use a car? Or is this a kind of glitch?

I know cop cars can take a bit more damage than normal, however, controling them is a bitch. They flip over really easily.

I pull to the starting line, wait for green light, get out of car...then use "destroy all cars" cheat, then get another vehicle, then cruise to victory.
