Hand #1 K/images/graemlins/spade.gifQ/images/graemlins/spade.gif

4th paragraph he says he has 11.2 percent equity and needs 7.9-1 odds to call down and only getting 11.25-2 or 5.6-1.

could someone help me figure out where these numbers came from /images/graemlins/confused.gif while i'm not saying his conclusion was wrong to check/fold the turned A/images/graemlins/heart.gif, i can't seem to replicate the numbers and take that process into other hands. please help. thanx.

I used a program to calculate my equity against the first range of hands (E1) and my equity against the second range of hands (E2). I then used the formula (.9)(E1)+(.1)(E2)= Overall equity. (Remember, we weighted the first group at 90% and the second group at 10%.) That came out to 11.2%. Converting to a ratio, (88.8%):(11.2%)= 7.9:1. Savy?

As far as calculating the odds to call down, there are 9.25 BBs in the pot going into the turn. Villain is going to put two more bets in, offering me the chance to win 11.25 BBs, at the cost of 2 BBs myself - thus the 11.25:2.

I am very very impressed with Pruitt's article. "Make the read & act on it." Great stuff!!

I use the program Poker Calculator, which is a free download. I don't remember the link, but you can find it by searching the software forum.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think with this article and the chapter in Mr Sklansky's book 'Hold Em Poker' about hand reading will set up anyone who thinks about their game, and is willing to put in the effort, on the road to being an excellent reader.

At least, I hope it does it for me! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

This was my favourite article from this month's magazine. I like being wrong because it lets me learn so much more than being right.
